ZSNES Vs SNESAMP

Post by seiferalmasy »

Because I cannot find (or becuse they never released) the originally sounding Street Fighter 2 tunes, I am attempting to record them via emulation.

Need to know 1 thing:

Which is closer to actual sound of SNES, SNESAMP set to gaussian high quality, or ZSNES set to gaussian high quality? There is definately some difference in how they both sound, unfortunately I do no have a real SNES to test it on.

Thanks

The Gaussian Interpolation option in ZSNES doesn't have a high quality mode. The only option that has a high quality mode in ZSNES in the Low Pass filter, which has very little to do with Gaussian Interpolation.

Well the option does say "Hi quality" on the right hand side, gaussian options on the left. I think?

But in any case which is nearer the actual sound Zsnes or snesamp?

Well, If you set SNESAmp "Like the SNES" and set ZSNES to use 32000Hz, Stereo + Gaussian, I think both are then equally close the the real SNES.

if you want the tunes via emulation, you mine as well get the original high quality stuff by emulating the arcade version, not the lower quality snes one.

1. Download MAME (Multi-Arcade-Machine-Emulator)

2. Find MAME ROM of Street Fighter 2. (DO NOT ask where, it is against the rules.)

3. Read the docs on how to setup MAME, as well as look for known issues in the readme/FAQ's/moo/whatever.

4. ???

5. Profit !!!
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Arcade versions are almost always superior to the their console counterparts, unless we're talking about extra features.

Mame is a terrible choice to playback arcade music. Use something made for musc playback like M1. Get version 0.7.7 and download the frontend Bridge M1. Don't forget to get the list pack for bridge M1. It's kind of tough to setup but once you get it going it's really nice.

M1:

Bridge M1 frontend:

Edit: It should look something like this when it's all setup.

1 set is 9MB and has names like ssf.002 and ssf.q04

the other>>>a small amount of 512k files named like ssf.3t, 4t etc

which do i use cause none are opening in that prog.

I don't think either of those are right. Here's what the set should look like if you happen to come across it: http://www.mameworld.net/maws/romset/sf2

What the hell are you talking about? The snes music of SF2 sounds much better than the arcade music. The snes uses real samples while the arcade uses some crappy stone-age FM-synth.

SSF2 (and up) is a different story. With this version the arcade is better.

If I ever get this arcade version I will be the judge, but if it doesn't sound like the actual SNES samples it isn't much use to me since it is the SNES sounding version I need. Does anyone have a real SNES here who could posibly upload say 10 seconds of guiles stage from SF2 or SF2:turbo?

that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. the snes version was a port from the arcade version. all graphics and sound were downsampled. if you think the snes music is better than the arcade than you got problems with your head. years ago I played the arcade version and heard how much better it is. I used final burn or some emu to output the wavs which I made into mp3s.

I'd have to agree. I own a SF2 CE arcade and it does sound better than the SNES version(which I also own).

Comparing the arcade version of SFA2 to the SNES version is downright laughable. The music in the arcade version is way better.

Just stick with the snes music if that's what you're used to. I wouldn't bother with the arcade one. Though I admit it does sound better to me since I used to play it in the arcade every now and then.

I've played the snes sf2 all my life, and a few times in an arcade. but once I got the arcade roms, the arcade version is clearly way better. if you're used to the snes music, then you'll be blown away by the arcade stuff.

King of Dragons is a good example of the snes music being superior to the arcade one.

i'm positive that's a rare exception since most arcade games ran on superior hardware.

SNES WINS NO CONTEST

Post by seiferalmasy »

I have listened to the pieces. The Arcade version is awful.

Sounds nothing like the SNES version, or indeed as full as:

Tune is inferior, Its just like a bad remix! Arcade clarity is better but the tune is so far away from the SNES and so god-awful sounding that it's unlistenable.

Anyway, thats settled me on using SNES version. Question now is:

Was that from the real SNES becasue I have to compare it to ZSNES and SNESAMP :)

Thanks 1000 times for that upload, I appreciate it!
