i think scorsese needs an oscar. i loved this film

he still deserves the recognition, even if the academy's politics is retarded.

but you're probably right about his not getting it.

Scorcese has enough recognition. Not to be too pissy or anything, but just about everyone knows that Scorcese is an acclaimed and respected director. There are plenty of filmmakers that could benefit from the attention that an academy award can give, and in this sense the oscars are useful. Scorcese or anything other established figure recieving an oscar is meaningless. He will still have $100 million thrown down on all of his projects no matter what.

The academy and any kind of film rating board, like that 4 stars system, they prefer feel good movies and vote down depressing stuff. I haven't seen this movie but I'm guessing it's not feel-good. And I won't see it either. I made a vow before seeing the movie that I would never go to (pay for) the regular full priced movies again if Silent Hilll sucked. And I intend to keep that vow. And the theatres with cheaper older movies, let's face it those suck ass. So no there too.
