In my opinion, another major issue with ALSA is it's Linux only. Linux is NOT the only form of Unix out there. I use FreeBSD, which is another form, and it's sound drivers are OSS-compatible (although not OSS according to them). I think it's a good move on the part of the ZSNES developers to focus o...

It looks almost like you had a partial build already done before you did the configure, so try to do a make clean before you make.

To answer your question, kick, you might want to try looking into FreeSBIE, it's a FreeBSD-based LiveCD. I'm just hoping that whatever comes out of all this for sound, that it's as cross-platform as possible. It's good that current versions of ZSNES already work in FreeBSD as well as Linux, and I wo...

Personally, I use FreeBSD as my main OS and Windows 2000 as a side OS (being that I use it on my laptop for school and in QEMU on my desktop), so it would be great to see sound work for both of those OSes. FreeBSD is really a great choice since they decided to stick with using an OSS-based backend f...

I'll go out on a limb here, but I believe this will probably be corrected once they finish the new sound core completely.

Just because people bitch about something on the forums doesn't mean the developers need to give in to the bitching. Like I said, it's better they keep the GUI the way it is so they don't have to deal with multiple GUIs. And like it was said before, emulation should be the main focus of the emulator...

That wouldn't be as bad only because both of them are cross-platform GUIs. Personally though, I like ZSNES's current GUI, it makes it unique among emulators. I've seen a lot of emulators that have a Windows GUI that need extra stuff added to their *nix counterparts just to have a GUI, like Visual Bo...

Besides, it'd be more work on the developers to have to keep track of a Windows GUI and a non-Windows GUI (for *nix and DOS). Plus, GUI programming is a nightmare from what I've experienced. If you think it's easy to make a Windows GUI, go try it. It's really not that easy.

Strange, because I had it set to PNG and it still said BMP the first time I went into the F1 Menu. But I do see now that you are right about both locations being updated. It wasn't acting like it at first, but maybe I really didn't look hard enough.

Something isn't working right, then, because I have PNG selected in the Options dialog box, but I can still select BMP in the F1 Menu and the snapshot created is indeed BMP, not PNG. It WILL create a PNG if I choose PNG in the F1 Menu, but it's using the F1 Menu's Image Format, not what I've selecte...

F1 Menu Snapshots ignores Config->Options->SShots

When you go into the F1 menu to take a snapshot, the Image Format in that menu seems to ignore whatever option is selected in the Config->Options->SShots option. This happens on SVN 4426 under Windows and *nix. I'm thinking that even though the image format was added to the Options dialog box, it wa...

Ah. Well in that case, I didn't detect any noticable difference in staticness between older versions and current ones with libao. As for playback, I've noticed it still depends on how overloaded my CPU is. Both before and after libao, the sound gets a bit choppy when it hits a CPU lag bubble. So I t...

Nach asked me to test the new libao options under FreeBSD (I'm using 6.2-RC1 right now, which probably isn't too different from 6.2-RELEASE), and I couldn't hear much difference between using oss or sdl. I could not test arts because I have that disabled (it takes over my entire sound card so nothin...

Just because zlib is installed doesn't mean it's the latest version. Check zlib.h and see if it says "1.2.3" for ZLIB_VERSION. If not, there's your problem.

Never knew that the different versions of automake and autoconf could be mixed and matched. I've always seen other things put automake 1.4 with autoconf 2.13, automake 1.5 with autoconf 2.53, and automake 1.9 with autoconf 2.59. But using automake 1.4 with autoconf 2.59 worked just fine here. Good i...

I could've told you that there's no bugs in ZSNES. That's like saying Windows has no bugs! :D Comparing ZSNES to Windows? You don't have to be so mean. D: It's valid in some ways. In most cases, you'd also need to post NSRT output. But you're using a patched ROM. Did you hard -patch the ROM or is ZSNES soft-patching it? Regardless, I believe a patched ROM will have a bigger tendancy to fail because it's code is no longer the same as it originally was. Also, you might want to ...

I tried emailing Mark Adler with zlib, and he tells me he can't see any reason why it isn't working either. libz.a is 1.2.3, and looking at the strings output, I can see _gzdirect in the file. I even tried to update gcc to 3.4.5 since Deathlike2 suggested that. Still has the same problem, though. I'...
