Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
When it comes to my own tastes, that's about as good as you get get on a high-res LCD monitor. I own CT and have a working SNES, and the xBR image isn't even close to as nice looking as my SNES on my CRT(even though it's through composite, plan to get S-video cables), but other than the character fa...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
The sprites are just smoothed out, and I prefer that look over 4x or no filters at all. Of course it doesn't look nearly as nice as a real SNES on a CRT, and certain details are lost with both filters. The faces are warped, but that's just because the pixels are (I think) rounded and smoothed out so...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
I see. I have almost zero tech knowledge other than knowing how to use basic software like emulators, and I'm totally out of my element when talking about specific technical norms and hardware in general. I need to start reading up on tech; I know what parts I need to upgrade this computer, but that...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
My mistake; I was thinking of the GBA version. The PSX version was only released in Japan and the patch is a dialogue translation. I probably got them mixed up because the last version I played was the GBA version.(the dub is hilariously terrible) I'm really tired right now too. Regarding bit/byte c...

Re: WHAT GAMES ARE YOU PLAYING THESE DAYS
I think discharging is how my 1st PSP battery died, plus I had it stacked up on shelves for a long time. When I got it out, the battery slot on the PSP was warped as well so I couldn't replace the battery & update the FW. I only replaced it to play FF4 Complete Collection(to play the remastered ...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
I didn't know that at all; I'm pretty much just a casual fan of emulation. I love using emus to play old games that were either never released here, rare and expensive, or on a system I don't have, namely arcade hardware. There's nothing quite like playing the actual arcade version of a game I loved...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
That was copy/pasted from some random site while I was searching for the exact conversion, so it's not directly from me. Because of the file sizes of SNES games, 8mbits=1mbyte is generally faster to calculate, but 1byte=8bits is the simplest exact conversion as a whole, especially for NES games and ...

Re: WHAT GAMES ARE YOU PLAYING THESE DAYS
SO sounds interesting, but I generally play RPGs for their stories, although good battle, equipment, skill etc systems are important to me as well. I've only played a tiny bit of SO, and the battles are pretty cool although I've yet to actually learn how to exploit its systems due to inexperience. I...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
Doesn't the DC have 2mb audio RAM? The DC's sound is pretty damn good in the DC arcade ports I've played. For instance, the character voices in CvS2 are absolutely crystal clear and the rest of the sound, obnoxious announcer included, don't seem too badly compressed. I assume textures had to be ton...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
Plus, Naomi equaled VERY easy DC ports although I bet they were difficult to port to the PS2 because of how hard it was to develop for. I mean, isn't the DC just Naomi hardware with less RAM? Other than the awful music and annoying announcers, games like CVS2 and MvC2 were the shit before the PS2 ca...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
Thanks for clarifying, and PAL gamers back then got fucked over BADLY. FF6 and CT were never released in PAL format(although they got Terranigma) and of course the games ran slower at 50fps than our 60fps NTSC games. It's very hard for me to play PAL version of SNES games because the timing is reall...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
8 megaBITS= around 1 megaBYTE. Check the size of games like CT(4 megs. 32 mbit) to do more precise conversions, although I just stick with 8 mbits=1 mbyte. I think the biggest SNES game was Tales of Phantasia, which was 48 mbits/6 megs due to all the badly compressed speech and the silly theme song....

Re: WHAT GAMES ARE YOU PLAYING THESE DAYS
A bit off-topic, but I'm incredibly interested in Monolith's X on the WiiU, and if it's as awesome as it looks so far, I may buy a WiiU just for that one game. The other exclusives would simply be a nice bonus. Great JRPGs on non-handhelds these days are few and far between. I really wish the 3DS ha...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
So in layman's terms, S-video displays and separates the color signals much more effectively which results in a cleaner, sharper image? Component cables obviously allow for higher resolutions plus they separate video signals(the components) much more effectively than composite and are a step up from...

Re: WHAT GAMES ARE YOU PLAYING THESE DAYS
Beat CT, on to DQ8 and FF4DS! I'm still at the beginning of DQ8 because I was busy moving and setting shit up ay my new place, and I finally have a nice CRT to play SNES, PS2/PS1, DC, and N64 games on. Now all I need to do is buy component cables for my PS2 and S-video for the N64, SNES, N64, and DC...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
My Samsung TX-S2783 CRT(getting this baby for free was LUCKY) is native 4:3 as well and for pre-PS360, 4:3 is required as far as I'm concerned. I've heard some horror stories about this TV bowing and/or blurring rather quickly, but mine is from 2006 and the PQ is fantastic. Despite not supporting an...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
It's a flat, 27 inch Samsung CRT, non-HD but does support 480p(one component-out). For mere composite, the PQ is lovely, especially with the PS2 and DC. I think what I'll do regarding PS2 inputs is get both component and S-video inputs and if I have trouble playing PS1 games via component, I'll simp...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
In that case, you're better off using a real SNES or at least using an old CRT monitor with an emulator, because without filters SNES and other older games look awful on high-res LCD monitors. I can see practically every individual pixel unlike, say, a SNES connected to a good CRT via S-video. I'm g...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
The xBR filters aren't perfect, but they significantly improve detail compared to HQx filters alone. There is a little bit of detail lost, but hq4x+5xBR is much much better than the default filters alone. I have a fairly old 1920x1080 60hz monitor, and the CRT filters I've used look very buggy. Gil,...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
It's almost like playing CT in HD since the BR shader eliminates pretty much all pixelation; it's so fucking SMOOTH. oh god please stop i'm gonna throw up in my mouth So, what's wrong with 5xBR 3.7a coupled with Hq4x or 3xBold/S? The 5xBR shader replaces blurry bilinear filtering and corrects many ...

Re: Bored? come watch my friend stream zsnes games
Not a fan of twitch so I haven't watched, but if there's commentary how about playing super Ghouls n' Ghosts on professional mode? That game pisses me off more than any other game I can think of, especially the arremers and those tiny demonic fairy fuckers. His gargantuan outbursts of pure seething ...

Re: Let's kill some restrictive copyright/SOPA nonsense agai
I'm not much of a Disney person, was when I was a kid, but not now. When it comes to sporting events I'm interested in(just boxing and MMA), I watch the PPV cards on live streams online; it's best not to risk downloading them, although I have before; it was years ago though, UFC card. I do use a sto...

Re: WHAT GAMES ARE YOU PLAYING THESE DAYS
No question, for all it's faults, the Gamepad Pro's d-pad WAS better than the old 360 d-button. Neither was what I'd call a decent directional, but... It's WAY too floaty, but I was able to perform a lot of supers and specials in fighting games that are nearly impossible on the old 360 dpad. I'm ge...

Well, why don't we at least boycott as many supporters as we can? Speaking with your wallet is pretty much the only way to force the hands of big companies. Also thank you for the list; I just got online and I hadn't even started looking stuff up; much appreciated. Also, Gil's suggestion that you sh...
