Yes, ATI's drivers, Linux or otherwise, are crap. As a result, most Linux users with a clue will tend to prefer nvidia.

Another thing you could try is 'SDLAUDIODRIVER=alsa zsnes' from a terminal session.

Try disabling arts in KDE.

If that fails, try, uh, not using the world's most broken distribution evar.

For the lazy Gentoo'ers, I've written an SVN ebuild; you can grab it here. Please be sure to right-click and go to 'save as'.

If there are any issues, please let me know.

Update: The ebuild should work now. Again, please to tell me of all issues encountered. :p

Unless I accidentally typo'd when I added 1600x1200, there shouldn't be any scaling to 1600x1024.

1280x960 + the new NTSC filter. May switch it out for HQ4x, though, as it doesn't seem to be doing much.

Though, I noticed that the new NTSC filter + HQ4x is a bit sluggish on my 1.54GHz machine...

I witnessed the same issue in Bahamut Lagoon [no rom info because I'm not at my computer right now, and I'm not yanking out my USB drive to dash to my room to grab it, but it *is* a valid ROM, albeit with the English translation softpatched] twice, as well. I also experienced some graphical glitches...

My settings [because using anything else and complaining about how sound isn't right will result, most likely, in a locked thread]:

32kHz
Gaussian interpolation
NO low-pass filters.

If you can't demonstrate clearly that it is, in fact, a bug with ZSNES, and not just with your brain/memory, please go away.

Likewise, if you can't get a recording of how the SNES plays it, please go away.

Quit trying.

Please.

Certain individuals [who will remain nameless because I am not at liberty to say] have already done 96kHz [and done it in about 30 minutes], and all you have to do get a build with it is to pay $20.

If you're not using Gaussian interpolation, go away, no one cares. I don't *care* how 'good' it might sound; it's not what the SNES used, so it's irrelevant to getting ZSNES to output 96kHz.

At this point, I think you really should quit trying. You don't gain anything by having 96kHz sound, since the original hardware mainly only did 32kHz + Gaussian interpolation, and most games assume you're using 32kHz, which makes things sound like ass if you use anything else.
