Re: Solid State Drives (SSDs)

A lot of them will try to trick you with high sequential read specs, but random read ops per second are what you want to really compare, since that'll be closest to real world situations. Intel are generally good, and I've had good experience with their SSDs. Other brands I've heard are good but I h...

Re: Noobie question about BIOS.

They're the progam ROMs associated with various peripherals like satellaview and all sorts of copiers. You can configure a few of these for games that need some of these ROMs in CONFIG->PATHS.

Re: Mayflash Wii U Pro controller adapter.

My original Wii classic controller adapter fried when it broke one of my USB ports (lottle plastic pin holder in the port broke off) so there is likely no input protection. I imagine they're kind of cheapo.

Re: Zsnes doesn't function after selecting "interpolation"

Uninstalling zsnes or really any application doesn't remove your user configuration for it, so whatever it's reading for your configuration is still there and it's very unlikely zsnes affected the system configuration in any way.

Re: Improving the sound engine

Nowadays there's probably nothing wrong with outputting at 32000hz and letting the sound card driver/subsystem figure out what to do with it. Back in the day you'd frequently run in to issues with drivers having either no resampling ability or arbitrary limitations on resampling, but nowadays that's...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development

Using snes9x-gtk in linux, I do get crackling too at first sometimes (along with the game running at roughly 32000/48000 speed, for obvious reasons), but if I go in to preferences and toggle the output sample rate to another rate and back, clicking OK and going back to the preferences dialog each ti...

Yeah, beating bowser makes no difference to the SRAM save. But if he's referring to the game just showing "EMPTY" then I don't really have any specific recommendations other than checking save directory permissions.

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development

The concept probably wouldn't be too bad if it was just a box that popped up on the main desktop with similar functionality. Kind of like what Unity and Gnome 3 have. It doesn't replace the desktop, instead it works with the desktop, to provide a similar sort of navigation, but without having to go ...

Did you try doing what it said to do in the last line? You probably don't need to build it. Looks like you can download the debug info separately.

Re: Which Sampling Rate to use?

Well, 32000hz is what you'd probably want to use since that's what the SNES used. Not sure exactly the use for the others nowadays but pretty much any system should handle output at 32000hz. You really can't make it sound any better since the game audio will only really suond as good as the samples ...

Well, if any of these programs can be set up for a networked game from the command line, You could probably have some sort of generic lobby system with configurable programs, or even make specific programs for them externally that handles lobbies and chat, and when yous go to play, it can just have ...

Re: Version for 486 100?

By the time they developed the 486, were there any features that would've made predicting the number of clock cycles per instruction impossible (stuff like prediction, pipeline, etc.), or did those things not come until the pentium? Also, I imagine there were certainly differences in clock cycles pe...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development

While zsnes might have issues in the latest windows, I don't think it's entirely incompatible, and works perfectly for most people. You might need to mess with graphics drivers or something. As for your snes9x problem, I've heard of solutions to that but don't remember. Probably just mess with sampl...

Re: Version for 486 100?

I don't have that old of a computer for my early zsnes memories. It was a 233Mhz P2. Pretty much everything beside special chip games ran well, but never got 60/60 FPS. That wasn't something i could accomplish until like 2004.

Re: Using an On-Screen Keyboard in Zsnes

I don't know exactly but it probably has to do with how directinput may differ in some way than the usual input method used by most non-games.

Either way, get a bluetooth controller or something. SNES games with a touch screen? ick.

Re: Same ROM, different File?!

Yes, there are new dumps coming out, where previous dumps that were thought good actually turned out to be bad. Also the headers aren't used by emulators. Those things are automatically detected. The details I'm not familiar with but it seems to be reliable. Not sure what the headers stored but they...

Re: Same ROM, different File?!

Could be different copier headers. I don't know the details of how goodsnes's hashing works, though. But nowadays, goodsnes is quite outdated, and you should probably use something like no-intro or TOSEC DATs. As for removing copier headers, there's all kinds of tools for that, or you can just manua...

A lot of people continue to use 1.36 because it has netplay, and basically no other emulator does; on top of that is that they think having 2 SNES emulators is silly when zsnes generally usually works OK. I see some LPs where they'll complain about bugs in their ROMs or whatever, without trying anot...

Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development

What's the benefit to a 64 bit SNES emulator? "Not needing a multilib setup" comes to mind. Simplifies things a bit for some people. Also some data tricks become quite cheap cpu-wise, so that's always good (gotta go fast). I see. That makes sense and I figured that would be the answer. To...
