and just to add, XP doesn't do anything automatically because it DOESN'T KNOW what you want to do with it. Do you want more than one partition? do you want to format it? Was it just accidentally plugged in? Did the computer boot off the wrong drive? etc.

This is a US-centric opinion: The problem I see with meeting out in meatspace is, is that there really is no good place to meet. Loud smoky bars where you cannot hear anything, corporate cookie-cutter franchise restaurants with plastic seats, sterile museum-like malls... Everywhere but the ass plant...

help me out if I'm using the wrong terminology here... Anyways, there could be an application or driver that is killing the realtime performance of the machine. I've seen this with seemingly innocuous things like an HP media button handler, certain system tray garbage updaters, and even with the nVi...

I don't understand the punchline. Or is the joke something fanboyish along the lines of the gcc compiler already doing this? (or whatever).

Incidentally, I program as part of my job, but in a procedural language for some seriously application specific hardware.

SNES sprites aren't large, period. Everything's split in tiny pieces of a couple different sizes, you just fill the ram to the brim or not. DKC was brilliantly designed, as in it looks gorgeous but is actually simple. If you look at it a while you'll realise not much moves/changes, and most of the ...

It's a fault of the game for not pointing it out. Then again, at the time FF6 was pretty much targeted to a specific audience who knew these things. And who were tenacious enough to never incorrectly believe the game was broken because they knew there was always something to trigger the next plot ad...

but no, I can remember Kirby Super Star being pretty horrible with slowdowns. 2 player was still fun though. I wish somebody would take the assets of the game and remake it for another system, sans slowdown.

Soul Blazer - Kind of ridiculously easy at the start, but it gets 100x better. I cannot believe this was even released in the US due to the existential and religious concepts. Remember, this sat alongside such "gems" as Space Football. Grandia's light-hearted approach really helped me in a...

I used to freak out when people were like, "yeah, my PS2 stopped reading disks so I threw it into the dumpster and bought a new one". The reason was of course the availability of replacement parts and the ease of fixing it. Now I'm like, meh. It's your money. Second meh, you wouldn't pay m...
