Re: Looking to build a new PC

I too would like NCQ on the hard drive, but it really isn't a deciding factor in performance... it's more useful depending on the loads you are doing really. Although, I'm not a fan of WD and would personally avoid them (I'm a crazy Maxtor/Seagate guy, so bleh). You don't really need SATA 6Gbps for ...

Re: Looking to build a new PC

Is hard drive performance important to you? You selected a power saving drive... which tends to be a 5400RPM drive of some sort. If boot or load times is not important to you, then feel free to disregard my question.

Best DVD Reading Drive Brand?

This isn't a topic I would normally care to post, but with a DVD drive my parents use is somewhat annoying... failing to read stuff that was burned from China (probably with cheap brands to boot) and I need to know what brand works the best for this type of stuff. I primarily use Samsung drives beca...

Re: Buying New Comp Parts...

Very interesting. Considering my dad and I both have desktop motherboards with ICH10R and JMicron controllers. I have no trouble with AHCI, but then, I'm also running Windows 7, while he's still running Windows XP. For him, setting up the AHCI drivers and enabling AHCI mode will hopefully fix an an...

Re: Buying New Comp Parts...

Small bump I've reinstalled XP recently while using the Intel RST 10.x series drives (not officially released, but are WHQL certified) AND fortunately it isn't causing any BSODs! I set my system up for RAID mode on the Intel ICH10R controller, and have found that the RAID drivers tend to be less BSO...

Re: ZSNES 1.51b Experimental Linux Binaries

Learning how your OS works is key to learning how things work... Files are created, read, modified in hidden folders all the time. You can define a cheat folder if you want to via the paths section... although it is best to manually to edit ~/.zsnes/zsnes.cfg (or was it zsnesl.cfg) and edit the path...

You are better off making a large Windowed screen with a custom resolution to be close to Fullscreen.... that's the way to go usually.

Re: My menu works but i cant open any of my games

Ah... you might be correct. When the files move, the load menu doesn't automagically update (and it's not supposed to either) so clicking on the entries will produce nothing.

Re: Rez help

I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. If you're using fullscreen, changing the res does change your desktop, but that shouldn't matter too much. Ideally, you want to use a custom resolution so that it is the same size as the desktop (because fullscreen allows ONLY what your monitor/video car...

Re: My menu works but i cant open any of my games

I sincerely hope you are not loading files with the SRM extension directly, because that won't work.

Try deleting your configs in the ZSNES folder and start again. Make sure you define a save directory as well and move all saves (SRM) and savestate files (ZST/ZS#/Z## files).

Re: Decent Cable Wireless Router Recommendation

If the router is poorly functioning... you can certainly still replace it with another.

If it's just a range issue... consider getting a Wireless AP to extend the range of the router's signal. Although, the sad thing of it is that they can cost as much as a cheap router.

Re: Decent Cable Wireless Router Recommendation

Dualband is ONLY useful if you have clients that have dualband adapters. More often than not, that is not the case as most products sold are usually of the 2.4GHz variety. The 5GHz variety is more useful if you are within a limited range unfortunately. The marketing speak fails at it... sure it's a...

Re: Decent Cable Wireless Router Recommendation

I've used netstumbler before, but the AP detection tools for wireless connections are pretty cool. Channels 1 and 11 are usually recommender over the default of 6. Of course actual testing is needed. Dualband is ONLY useful if you have clients that have dualband adapters. More often than not, that i...

Re: Decent Cable Wireless Router Recommendation

The only best suggestion I can make is that you make sure that the router is DD-WRT capable (go to DD-WRT's website to verify) just in case the default router firmware sucks ass. Alternatively, you could just get a wireless Access Point that connects to a working router... you then have to make sure...

Re: Finally have that new computer

I'd have to see the ATI texture filtering in action. It's been a while since my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro went into hiatus.

BTW, every MS OS has had RAM requirements that realistically demand 4x what they tell ya. 1GB on Vista sounds like 8 or 16MB on Win95. You might as well wait some more.

I don't have an issue with CCC, as long as it's not loaded on a computer that's primarily used for non-game purposes.
