From the look of the title screen you'd think the game is already in English

SO does have lots of sound-related bugs, but are you sure you're not just hearing the cicadas in the background?

SO:BS is apparently a VERY complicated game to hack, so if the translation scene's best are having a hard time with it, you're probably best off playing the Japanese version and following along with the FAQs/walkthroughs listed here:

No, I've never played that far into either versions of the game, but what I had been told was the text for that scene was translated as per the text in the PSX version. I guess it was a little more risque in the updated version or something. I'm not really sure on the details other than what I was t...

Um, we didn't make any English-voice patches. So I don't know what to tell you. The intro is in English in the original, everything else is Japanese. We didn't change any voices in our patch.

There are no voices in Dejap's Star Ocean patch. But if you want voices gone altogether, then you might be able to turn them off in the sound menu on the title screen.

An RPG would cost many thousands of dollars to translate professionally, even more if you want editors to gloss things up afterward. So $20 is just a tad low.

Gid: That sounds about right, though it really depends on the kind of text, of course, kanji-heavy stuff is crazy, like that omnislash example. But your numbers are pretty good. Whenever I get asked for a word count quote/price quote for a game translation, I generally calculate using the ratio 2.5 ...

Wow, some pretty sweet work there :) For a VERY short time me and Gideon were thinking of retranslating BoF2, but then we both got too busy. Glad to see someone tackling it, and a remake of it is like  For fun, here are some dumb screens from the game, yay! http://tomato.fobby.net/old/junk/bo...

Really? That's more often than I encountered it, I had to play through the game A LOT, upwards of 10 times, and I maybe ran into it once every few games on average.

I remember running into this on rare occasion when me and DF worked on BL, but I don't remember if it was related to the patch or not. I do think it's related to opening/closing the main menu (during map stuff) faster than should be allowed.

And, IIRC, Tomato said that the text that was made into the patch was not as polished as he would like it to be, so he wanted it to polish it some more. Cidolfas was in charge of all the final polishing, though I do feel we kept too close to the original. But I'm still 100% OK with leaving it as it...

http://clydemandelin.com has my resume but I can't list a lot of things until they get released so there's like 5 to 10 things that aren't on there yet. I do miss ROM translating though - it's a lot more fun to translate something and see instant results than translate a text file and then see it ge...

Um well I've been translating anime and that junk for almost 2 and a half years now and also I started doing games this last fall. I tell ya though, Woolsey did one heck of a job given his time constraints. I've had similar situations and nearly went crazy and almost decided to quit a few times

Perhaps they read Tomato's article about Ted Woosley and his localizations and finally decided to stop complaining about it. ...I wish... Holy crap, I forgot all about that article. I really should maybe update it sometime, I'm actually a professional game translator (among other things) now so tha...
