I hit the emulation scene around 1996ish. I got to see Snes96 and Snes97 still separate... Snes96 get rough sound support... and all that's happened since. One of the first sites I visited was Archaic Ruins (I discovered Node 99 a little late b/c it died shortly after finding it) followed by the Em...

I'm going to play devil's advocate here. You two love to throw around Word and Visual Studio as your examples of unoptimized, bloated programs. However, do you really know this to be true? With all the features in Visual Studio 2008 and Word, do you really think you could create something better? Th...

I can also add from SNES sound programming experience that you need to have some knowledge in sound synthesis. You're dealing with ADSR envelopes . I found it a little bit difficult to really understand what's going on. Even now, while I've successfully composed and play back music for the SNES, I s...

While we're talking about Geiger's debugger. Does anyone have the source code for this? Being for SNES9x 1.41, it's severely outdated. I was hoping to port his debugging code to SNES9x 1.51, though I think that's wishful thinking as I bet the implementation is not modular in nature like that by a lo...

Sounds nice Nach. I'd throw in another vote for allowing persistent cache as well. Retaining the playability speed that ZSNES used to have with the graphics packs (more or less) sounds like a nice feature people would appreciate I'm sure.

Nightcrawler, I hope those utilities are acceptable. Good luck with your projects. Should I upload these programs/code to romhacking.net? I never know what kind of stuff is reasonable for there. This is a very specific set of utilities. Yeah, they look OK. I'm sorry I didn't get to test them (thank...

So then, any chance you'd be willing to write compressors for each mode, just to complete the whole thing? :) We do need compressors, so we can have the translation groups put in new locale/language graphics where appropriate. Yes, that would be very helpful. I previously looked into doing the tran...

Can I take that document and add it to RHDN? Or are you guys still working on a better one? It would be nice to archive it there for safekeeping and ease of locating for anyone interested. I trained 2 hours a day 5 days a week for many months to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. On the worst day I hiked for 12 hours straight typically drinking over 2 liters of water a day. Needless to say when I came back from that trip I was under weight. I couldn't maintain weight while I was out there. That w...

No emulator is as good as the original console for any that I own, though some are pretty close. I will continue to keep my consoles until they quit working. Then I may try and hunt down replacements for a few after that! It is a little difficult to keep several consoles hooked up though, I admit.

RHDN for example will refuse any IP trying to establish more than x simultaneous connections and y connection attempts per second (I forgot what I have the server to set to off hand). I imagine you will run into other sites with connection limits in place like that. The result will be either timeou...

Yeah, Anomie's docs are the current set of the most known accurate docs. Somebody with access to his repository should see if he's updated any since then (July 2007) and update them on RHDN as well. We (RHDN) have permission from Anomie, but I lost the address of his repository (semi-private).

The Dex Cool in these vehicles is much less of a problem if you have it changed out early. From the information I've read, it only really starts causing problems late in it's life. It seems if you've gotten it changed out early enough (say 60,000- 80,000 miles) you should be fine. You shouldn't have...
