Am I just stupid, or do you not render two views of it one slightly tilted as is and another that is top-down of L and R placed directly above the first or both orthographic and tilted which alternate on hover/click whatever As I said before, I'm not finished with the case holes, so I can't do a to...

That's your opinion Fitz. Those older buttons are quite off on the colors. I like the newer ones better. Also, there's too much shoulder button showing in the first one because its an orthographic view. I don't like orthographic views because they are flat and unrealistic. You can keep the old one f...

Ah well screw it then. I updated the png for ya on the latest version:

Image

This will do it for updates for a while. I've been staring at buttons for a week straight and my eyes are burning from strain. I gotta take a break.

An update for Fitz on the jpg large image:

Rotated camera view to show more of the top buttons, and also changed the button materials to subsurface scatter plastics. not a whole lot of difference, but subtley better shaded.

I'm going to try a faded cord for the mini-png version next.

The only difference between the Japan and PAL version (other than the logos) is the shoulder buttons. The PAL version has distinctly painted "R"s and "L"s, while the Japanese version just has indented plastic in the shape of the letters. Not true. I have a PAL controller with sh...

I have 2 other sets of colored buttons from my SFC controllers, and the look identical in tone to the PAL version. Speaking of which, I got an OCD fit, broke out a toothbrush and cleaned every crevice of every part of the PAL controller, then I reassembled it and stored it away. The only difference ...

I've made this sample pic from the scan I did, which shows average surface color patches (excuse the dirt, they just arrived from the dirty English): http://www.firebrandx.com/downloads/snesbuttons.jpg I made sure to avoid scratches and highlights when taking the average RGB value. You can see how e...

Yeah, looking at my controller, it should be a darker shade of green. Because you're looking at it under different light. What everyone wants is the buttons to look like their controller under their conditions. I can't do that. I will render a top view for Fitz since he keeps holding onto it like L...

Yeah, I'm convinced it has to do with the comparison of looking at a green object versus looking at a green light. We normally only notice the issue with green because of that extra sensitivity to it. Needless to say, every photo of the button (including my own scan) returns an RGB value that is con...

I updated the large jpg on the first page with the new green value. I'm about to fall asleep, btu I will do the same scanning for the other buttons when I get up. I will post the pic of the scans themselves so people can compare too.

As I was frying my brain over the green tone issue, the mail arrived and my ebay-won PAL controller package was delivered. I quickly took it apart and slapped the green button in my scanner and scanned that fucker on 800dpi (coulda gone higher but 800 was plenty). I then loaded it up in PSP and took...

Which goes to my point about the difficulty of green objects. If none of those values match your button, then the color is impossible to replicate. The only value not used is red, and adding that washes the tone to brown or grey depending on the blue value.

Hey now, my NTSC palette is the shiznit!

I'm just demonstrating a point anyway. Already the first vote is for less blue than I had in the latest update, and yet people were wanting me to add MORE blue!

Ok now to turn the conflict on to you guys  Below is a set of Y buttons. Starting in the upper left, the RGB value is 0-150-50. Each button gains 5 more units of blue, while the red and green values stay at 0 & 150. Your task is to vote the tone that you feel most closely matches the re...

The colours are already much better, but (with the disclaimer that it could just be my monitor) The blue should be slightly darker, the red should be silghtly less saturated, the yellow should be slightly warmer and the green should be slightly bluer.. :? Colours are a bitch! Shoulda been here befo...

BTW, byuu that review is wrong or outdated. That model display I mentioned is true 8 bit. The displays that are 6-bit are listed as such on newegg, and that model isn't one of them. Also I wanted true HDMI support (PS3 requires it or it wont output blu rays in full 1080p for anti piracy measures), w...

$300 for a 24" TN panel? Yuck. http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=3302&p=2&cp=7 Good for gaming, terrible if you're trying to model 3D images and need true 8-bit color and vertical viewing angles. How about a better suggestion then? "Yuck" doesn't really point m...

Ok I boosted the colors by another 20 units (about 8.5%) on the bsnes png version. Let me know if it looks good enough and I'll upload the large jpg version. After that, I'll start uploading wallpaper versions for those that want. Looks great to me, except the green still looks off somehow, I think...

I'm actually about to dump some money on a new monitor. The samsung 2232bw I currently have is nice, but I want 1900+ res support now. I'm currently looking at the ASUS MK241H which has 2ms and 1920x1200 native res. Reviews have been very positive from customers.

Ok, I've updated the button colors once again and I'm satisfied with them. Finally the controller is approaching acceptable appearance with my OCD, though I keep 2nd guessing my work on the crosspad. I may yet go back and do some tweaking to it.

Thanks yohan, I will make those slight adjustments. Right now I'm having a strange graphics corruption on the renders that doesn't make sense at all. There are sub-pixel size fragments showing up on some pixels, even when I check the images in PSP and zoom in, I can see the fragments. Painting over ...

New update: I've shaped the maincase to have the same contour curves as the real controller does. It doesn't change the image very much, other than how the light hits the bump-mapping from top to bottom. I also shaped the backcase to match the real controller as well, though I still have to cut a fe...
