you can use a keyboard or a controller to navigate the menus - just make sure "ESC to Game Menu" and "Ctrl GUI w/Gpad1" are checked in Misc -> GUI Opts. the former option makes sure you don't ESC back to an unexpanded menu from in-game, which you can't navigate without a mouse. e...

i'd suspect one of the following:
- the driver or a utility for the xbox controller was updated and its behavior changed
- a keymapping utility was installed/updated/reconfigured

just double-checked to verify - the Wii U Pro Controller will not sync while the system's in Wii mode. you'll need to dig up some Wiimotes and Classic Controllers or Classic Controller Pros.

make sure you've extracted zsnes from the download archive to a location in which normal users have write access (i.e. NOT Program Files).
