Because not everyone wants to imagine they are living in a Star Trek episiode.

The Star Ocean universe (well, the Eternal Sphere simulated universe in the bigger 4D universe) also uses stardates, but only because it has a clear tendency to spoof Trek in the first place.

perhaps time should be measured in a new unit, which we will dub "pooftime". It is the time it takes to consume a cheesy poof. So we'd have around a hundred poofs makes a bag. So we'd say that we've been waiting in line for five bags. Likely getting slapped by the five women that preceded us...

Maybe that isn't such a great idea.

We could use stardates, but give it a less Sci-fi associated name. We could call them "newdates" or something similiar.

We could talk in various amounts of Planck time.

Now that would be a great application for Exa, Yotta, Xona, Wekka and company.

Shakes of a lamb's tail?

Of course, that's been defined as 10 nanoseconds now, so that may not be a good idea.
