I'm interested in where I said I had a problem with Dawkins criticizing religion in and of itself. I didn't. You acted as if I had. Somebody's jumping the gun, and it isn't me. By the way, I've read Hume, and found him stunningly pretentious. But then, I've found that about a lot of philosophers I've read.

It doesn't seem to look so ridiculous now...

If you read Dawkins book, you would see that he uses a methodical approach to critique religion from Thomas Aquinas to other God proofs, and mentions areas like Religious Extremism, and that Religion does not have a monopoly on morals and ethics.

He would be arrogant and a bigot if he used ad hominem attacks to religious adherents - but he actually does not do that at all. So I fail to see arrogance. Writers such as Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens are much more critical of religion in their writings, but you didn't single them out, so I don't understand your 'out-of-the-blue" ad hominem attack targeted at Dawkins at all.

If you said Jade Goody was an idiot, I would have agreed as she is a proven racist. I do not stick up for anybody just because of nationality.

You try too hard.

I really should've listened to my friend the first time and not said anything after the initial post, and observed my handiwork on an unintentionally successful troll, but somebody always has to take things too seriously. For shame. You can stop defending your idol now, I don't really care about this 'argument'.

Then you probably shouldn't have made the comment in the first place if you don't want to cause arguments. It was a pretty controversial comment to throw into an unrelated discussion.

Read harder. I intended to cause some sort of reaction, who knew it would deflect in such a way? Ah well, the arguments from the various religious camps will go on and on I suppose.

I read just fine thanks. You should have known that claiming an award-winning academic to be an idiot would not go completely unmissed. In fact, you were pulled up on it in the very next post.

Or I could have expected that people would be more like Evan, what a surprise. Both expectations are reasonable, but I overestimated this board. I won't make the same mistake again. I don't even like Evan that much, eesh.

Oh well, people will look for any excuse to run their mouth, preach their gospel, and lord over others I suppose. I commend Comacho for his posts in this thread, well done.

If you don't like the board or its members, no one is forcing you to post here.

When I see something I feel is unjustified, I will voice my opinion. If I claimed that Charles Babbage was an idiot in a remark I made, I would expect to be pulled up on it - and shocked if no one did. I have every right to say anything I want, as long as it is within the board rules.

I don't believe I said I had something against the board or members at large. Kindly try not to take something out of what I say that isn't there.

I say, it's almost as if you're looking for an excuse to preach... well, if you insist. Do go on saying empty things.

Last time I checked, Richard Dawkins is not a member here, so obviously you didn't break any rules. I didn't say you broke any board rules.

...I wasn't talking about rules, and to be perfectly honest I have no clue where you could've gotten the impression I was.

Actually I think this:

can very easily be taken as if you did.

Anyway, I thought my bro had trouble knowing when to stop.

...The truth can hardly be taken as a slight. If anything in that instance it could be taken as a compliment I retracted from realizing it was unwarranted.

But I digress. This is too much serious business for me.

I'm most concerned about the ramifications towards the global food supply if it continues to grow in the industrial sector.

Considering that in 30 years, China's population will drop like a fucking stone in a well, I don't think that's a problem.

Now, India and Africa... they're the problem areas.

Hm? Growth is estimated to be somewhat over half a percentage point... not high, no, but considering the total population of 1.3 billion...

Touche about India though.

China's birth rate is too low, and the One Child Per Couple law sets too high a tax for most people.

Plus, and here's the most important part: Many families are having abortions to avoid having a female child. The male to female ratio is going to go way way up once 30 years pass.

When those men grow up and realize that there are not enough women to go around, then chaos will ensue. I anticipate it.
