Family Guy is rock solid hilarious.. but the Simpsons have had a long standing goodness that has declined in recent years...
Family Guy does bring out complete random stupidity.. but yet brilliant in bringing back some good memories...

I have to admit the Simpsons is hard up right now, but I still have to choose it. I'll revisit my vote when Family Guy's had 16 seasons and you can actually compare the two.
This reminds me of the TV Guide best shows ever list where I Love Lucy was #2 and Seinfeld was #1. I wonder if in 50 years that list will even include Seinfeld.
Highlights off the top of my head that earned my hatred for Family Guy. The fight with the guy in the chicken costume. It was pointless, stupid, and un-funny.
"Hey Lois. Diarrhea". Lois laughs. "Peter, please, I'm holding Ice Tea". Yeah, I get it. This is showing why they are in love. I still think it's stupid.
When Peter scrapes his knee and does the ow, gasp scene for 28 seconds. I'm not sure if that's an exact figure, but I did measure it at one time. Maybe someone can correct me. Yeah, it's funny, but for not for longer than 12 seconds.
But I'm not all anti-Family Guy. It's a great show at times. So long as the only characters ever on screen are Stewie or Brian, or Stewie AND Brian.
Stewie's sexy parties are hilarious. The Sunny D commercial parody was great. Damn You Mop & Glo! That still makes me laugh right now.
I just think the stupid stuff drowns out or even eclipses the great stuff.
Note I've only seen a few episodes from season 4 and none from season 5. When they brought it back, I watched a couple and was unimpressed. It also competed with Law & Order: CI, and I like Law & Order.
