I'd say its bad.. Youtube has become a strong brand. But rumor has it they will change the name because its "silly".

That would be quite foolish.

Where did you hear this rumour?

According to Swedish IDG It was said by David Hallerman at pcworld. But it seems they didn't reffered to any link, and I can't find anything on Google. So its probably bullshit. Here is the link to the Swedish site anyhow.

It depends. If you think of storing videos online, it was YouTube all the way.

It was kinda logical for Google to acquire them. Google videos weren't that impressive.

The problem with YouTube, in terms of funding all of this were the lack of ads when it debut.. changing that while deploying such a service could have turned off users... so with the acquistion by Google.. such a more heavily ad financed system could be deployed.

Well, Saturn's Super Metroid videos and other speedruns looked better at Google, IMO.

But YouTube has the larger userbase.

You can also download the actual video files using Google Video.
Try out CCleaner and other free software at Piriform

Keepvid.com or just looting your cache will let you keep youtube videos. I know its not as simple as google video, but what can you do.

About advertising, in the frew years that I have been online, I have learned to tune out pretty much all web advertisements. I couldn't give a shit if there is some flashing ad. I'll look at it for a fraction of a second and move on.

Yes, but those are still in the FLV format, which you need some Flash-based player to use. Google Video provides MP4 downloads, which may or may not be more convenient.
