Been running final for a week now. It's ok. A decent upgrade to XP, that's about it though. The new start menu is fucking garbage. Change for the sake of change can have some shitty results.

your tune will change once your copy expires next year, when you have to pay for it.

Everything is rosy when you don't have to put down money.

No no, we know Windows sucks because it costs too much and has a shitty licensing scheme that locks you out when you switch hardware. But Vista also sucks because it sucks. That menu he said was garbage is only the tip of the iceberg. There's plenty more trash in there of the sort.

The Retail license originally permitted a single transfer, but was later amended to allow unlimited transfers. Assuming you are the type to actually mutate a single machine over time instead of buying a whole new machine and relagating the old one to somewhere in your personal server farm, it shouldn't be a problem when you are eventually forced to reactivate. Unless, of course, your upgrades eventually become so costly as to leave you without both Internet and telephone services. And then you may be forced to get some exercise when you have to dash between your desktop machine and the nearest pay phone.

Actually licenses aren't that costly. I still wouldn't get a home edition though, I don't like the idea of having to pay anything from MY pocket.

This is not XP, there is no Home & Pro version. There are several versions. The best version which includes all the "goodies" (which in this case are "suckies") will cost you ~$500USD. And besides all that Vista is slow, shitty, and morons will still run it in admin mode thinking passwords all over the place are making it secure though I'm sure many people will disable them anyways. And let's not forget about Internet "Zero day vulnerabilities" Explorer 7. That will be a hoot.

On the plus side, Microsoft's built-in "security softwares" will be so ineffective that anti-malware vendors won't really go out of business as feared. Enjoy.

It CAN'T also be installed on an HD with fewer than less 40gb FREE.

ADDED BONUS: You have to leave 30gb for swapping... no really, he won't LET YOU get below that.

right now it's going. I have a 256 stick, and 2x 128 sticks. vista came up blank screen. so I swapped around the sticks, then the bios was beeping. after swapping them like three times it finally booted to vista. I have a 30gig hard drive, it's installing fine.

I told it to format the 30 gig, it took like five seconds, then was ready to proceed. it better have formatted that bitch.
