personally, i prefer snes game music from the early 80s.

the mid-2000's flavor is very catchy, though.
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

Except the mid-2000's exists, where the early 80s one doesn't.

Well, if you forget david bowie's time travelling powers

one must never deny the Bowie. Labyrinth could've made an interesting RPG, methinks... something Arcana-ish, maybe?

He hasn't yet. How odd.

You know, FF3 is probably my favorite SNES game music wise.

erm? chrono trigger?
tales of phantasia also had some good music. I still remember hearing fighting of the spirit for the first time. It totally caught my off guard and made me say holy crap out loud.

Axelay's greatness ratio is way up there in badass consistency %.

Yay for tastes and opinions :)
Probably the worst one on my list of FFs. There's like... 2 that I deem acceptable (phantom train and decisive battle), all the rest ranges from meh to instant baleet from the playlist.
I just can't grow myself to like those in any way or shape. Same with the game itself.

That game has a lot of great ones. Like...
decisive
the stream of time
harmonious moment
vigorous town
serene weather
mystic forest
sylphs' mountain
retaliation
morlia gallery
lake on ymir
perverse religion
take up the cross
raising a curtain
the second act
final act
euclid (tastes double awesometastic when you listen to it again after spending so long in the past while playing)
premonition
as time goes on
midgard
treant's forest
BITING COLD

Yeah. There's just no way for me to point a favourite given the number of games with such great tunes.

Technically not a game though.
I was going to be a smartass at the start of this topic and say I prefer SNES non-game music, but then things like Mario Paint came to mind.

Also, OP seems to actually have great taste, the Donkey Kong Countrys have some of the best SNES music.
Also again, Rudra<3

Addams Family 2
Donkey Kong Country 1 2 3
Earthworm Jim 1 2
Final Fantasy V
Star Fox
Super Bomberman
Super Mario RPG
Yoshi's Island
Zelda - Link to the Past

FF6 and Secret of Mana have a few good titles, but the rest is overrated.
Same for Castlevania IV and Super Metroid.

And now a few obscure titles:
Jaki Crush
Plok! (This game has awesome music)
Umihara Kawase (Very catchy and well arranged tunes)
Ultra Seven (... just kidding)
