Might you be considering the change to GPLv3?

Based on what I gleaned from how the community was about 3-4 years ago, it's highly unlikely. The GPLv2 was picked for convenience, not ideology. If there was a separate fork there would be great gnashing of teeth. (Based on old knowledge, but those that are significant are still around, for the most part. I started following ZSNES right around the time zsknight left, if I remember right)

Is it important? Why does it matter? Unless contributors to ZSNES reassigned all copyrights to the code they contributed, all their stuff would continue to be licensed by the GPL2 until they decide to change it, so then you'd have a hybrid GPL2/3 project.

And actually, this project might (Probably not? Expirations? It's hard to keep track. If your company is big enough, your IP never expires. Re: Disney) be incompatible with the GPLv3 because of its stance on patents. GPLv3 could only be negative for ZSNES.

No. And as such we have changed our license to only be good for version 2 of the license.

at least the language concering linking and libraries is more legally sound in GPLv3.
Does [Kevin] Smith masturbate with steel wool too?

- Yes, but don’t change the subject.

Elaborate?

My problem with the GPL is that it's more popular than it should be. Too many projects use it without understanding it just because it is popular, then they get angry when people "steal" their work and try to sell it. Unless you are extremist, the GPL is not for you. I don't have a problem with the GPL personally, and would use it, but there are people who shouldn't use it but are anyway.

I fear someone will come in here and turn this into a flame war...
