Trying to rip something from Chrono Trigger (and failing)

Post by ZeaLitY »

SNESMusic's latest spc rip has a few errors, so I'm creating an alpha and omega archive for the Chrono Compendium. "Final Battle" is being a bastard, though. Every rip I've made (on the latest ZSNES, on ZSNES953a, on the latest Snes9x) sounds like this:

http://cc.herograw.org/Zeality/unheadered.spc

Yet the version on the old SNESMusic soundtrack (no longer up for download) soundsl ike this:

http://cc.herograw.org/Zeality/61%20-%2 ... Battle.spc

Sounds better, right? I've been totally frustrated in my attempts to rip a good copy of this song. The ones I've made have a significant volume drop a second after the song begins. Compounding the problem is the fact that I don't own Chrono Trigger. If anyone can,

a.) What's the problem here?
b.) Which sounds closer to Chrono Trigger's?

Thanks.

When is this sound drop? They sound the same to me. And I do have this game on SNES. No need to fire it up just to compare. This stuff is burned into my brain. I must have played this game a million times. The spcs sound accurate to me. Perhaps it's the player you're using that's giving you different results? One thing I notice is the first song has no time bit or is set to 3 min, while the second is set to over 200 min.

I don't know why echoecho can't here it, but I can hear it very clearly. The first one defenitly has a volume drop in the area you described.

For note I'm using Winamp with Alpha-II SPC Player v3.1 with high quality settings.

Edit: Although, it is almost unnoticable with "Like the SNES" settings.

This is an really odd issue your version that you ripped does indeed drop almost 4 Db after the intro...really odd.
