And the final (hidden) boss of Demon's Crest is crazy hard too. You had to have the semi-secret "Ultimate" form to even get to fight him...and good luck beating him.
Eh, beating the Dark Demon isn't too hard.. it's just a matter of having four full health potions. After that it jut becomes a battle of attritrion.
I beat him without getting touched and with no potions. I also finish Contra III in hard wihtout continuing.
Gradius III is hard, yeah, but it's playable...
But I could never beat Battletoads on the original NES. I beat it in an emu without save stating, but that doesn´t count because I was old, experienced, and I had nothing to do.

Playing:
Blur, Front Mission DS, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, The Last Remnant
In Line:
Far Cry II, Final Fantasy XIII, Revenant Wings

I beat Super Castlevania 4 without any save state (normal and hard mode)... it's not impossible, you have passwords. Contra is beatable for my on easy mode and normal modes...
Like Battle Toads... now THAT'S a hard game
Hard? it's IMPOSSIBLE!!! This game make all players crazy...
The concept of challenge has been lost these days.
You right...
THE LAST METROID IS IN CAPTIVITY.
THE GALAXY IS AT PEACE...

C'mon guys, I said it was hard in the highest difficulty level. I never had much trouble on the first three settings.
*just thought of another one*
Hmm, this one definitely takes the cake, at least for me. Super Mario Bros. - The Lost Levels. World 2 was the equivalent of world 8 in the original Bros. in terms of difficulty. I started out with 128 lives in 1-1 and had used them all up by the time I got to world 9.

You obviously didn't practice enough. Any of the castle levels were much more tough than World 2.
Whe I was a kid, there was a "Videocentro" here at my town, they only had 3 SNES games to rent. A top-down helicopter shooter in which you fought across different time periods or something like that (Which I haven't been able to find in rom form), U.N. Squadron and SUPER GHOULS AND GHOSTS.
Yeah, so I was able to finish SUPER GHOULS AND GHOSTS.
TWICE. You should why twice, if not, then that's great for you.

Yes. It didn't help that I was 8 years old, didn't get any instruction manual with it, and before the internet and help files existed. Took me a long time just to figure out the controls.
eh, yea lost levels is kinda what i miss about most games back in that era... there shoulda been more great sequels to platformer's back then...
it was challenging and i needed help on maybe 5 levels... (i got my bro to do them for me) but aside from that very thoroughly enjoyed it... and that was on a real SNES maybe 7 months ago now? (im 18 at the moment) and still got the game... shame it doesn't include SMW or SMW2 in it -.-'
