Wow, already? Myself, I'm planning on buying Vista along with a memory upgrade to 2GB with my tax refund. I'm not gonna install Vista just yet, but if I don't buy it now it's unlikely I'll come across enough money to do so again. These last couple years I've had a big deduction that next year will no longer be available to me.
System Specs:

2.2GHz Athlon64 X2 4400+, 2GB DDR 400 SDRAM
EVGA Geforce 7600GT 256MB
Realtek AC '97
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

My only reason to get vista would be if they removed all that retarded eyecandy and the drm malware with the service pack.. Ironic that such a "revolutionary solid and secure" OS as vista will need a service pack so soon.

Microsoft is retarded. By announcing this, they just admitted to KNOWINGLY releasing a big buggy pile of shit for the retail release. They should have delayed it again for the next half of year to actually fix these things and have a half decent release. I'm tired of companies knowingly releasing shit.

It's just ridiculous to announce you're working on a service pack for an OS that hasn't hit retail shelves yet.

This is exactly what I forsee happening to the video game industry with all this content downloadable online BS. Companies are going to release half finished crap and release a service pack or fix to finish it later.. maybe.

I hate this crap.

Well, if you ever migrate on any of MS's new OS... wait for the first service pack for your own good.

I also waited for SP2 to move to XP.

I won't even consider -trying- Vista until SP1 comes out. RTM is always like, a fucking alpha. Using it is just asking to have problems.

Why don't you just set that money aside for later?

hahaha buying a microsoft os you're one funny guy! let alone buying vista lol. I installed vista on my spare computer, and about a week later removed it and put xp back on. even using the 'ultimate edition' I saw nothing that it had that xp doesn't. I have it for free and I still won't use it, dude, save your money and just buy a new computer instead of a new os.

I first got XP when it was SP1, and when I got my laptop it came with 2.

Had little to no problems with both releases. :)
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

New applications have to be written to use the new functionality of Vista, well if you can call it "functionality"... But anyways, you can only expect current applications to act the same as they do on XP.

One other thing... when people upgrade to the newest Windows, they expect all their programs to run perfectly. Unfortunately, chalk it up to shitty programmers using undocumented features (putting values into 'reserved' variables of system function calls, calling functions from a system32 .dll that only windows should call, patching things). Microsoft has since windows 95 added actual hacks to get popular programs to continue running with the new os.

you guys need to get with the times. I had xp like a month before it was launched. and it was awesome. now I got vista, and it severely lacks awesomeness. but I was unable to try the 3d gui shit, so maybe that's its only cool (stolen from everybody else) feature.

I had to update to the latest nero to run it on vista. they didn't have any drivers for my sound card. I did not try zsnes on it. I don't think I even had the chance to use dvd decryptor and shit before uninstalling it.

I also just threw some old ass windows 98 on this old ass laptop. it can run 1024x768 at 16bit color only. when I went to windows update, nothing showed, just a bunch of java errors. pry because it has internet explorer 4.0. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the kind of software you guys use daily.

tried to update it to se (poor usb support) but that crapped out. so 2000 is on it now and it's great. seems this cd-rom is very picky about the cd-rs it will read.
