Why are our hands different from our feet? Because our feet aren't needed to be used anymore like chimps use them.

Why is our brain so big compared to other animals? Because it's needed.

the thing is, that evolution is to discard what isn't NEEDED, and keep what you do use, and adapt that you need.
Listen to alexz721. Evolution doesn't have a purpose at all. Something will not disappear because it's "not needed" (who the fuck would decide if it's needed or not anyway?). Only things that will make certain genes less likely to live on will disappear over time.
Example:
Joe Camacho wrote:Why aren't we covered in fur/hair anymore? Because it isn't needed.
No, Individuals with less hair were more likely to survive and have children that were more likely to survive and have children etc. than those with more hair. Natural Selection. There is no other factor in evolution.
You make it sound like someone said "Hey guys, I don't think we need to have fur anymore. Let's gradually evolve into having less hair!"

Dude, it's called natural selection for some reason. Why did dinosaurs died while animals that could resist the hard cold survive? Because they were able to adapt. You can say that mutations are what make those changes possible, but the truth is, living things adapt to the changes in the enviroment and so, pass those genes to the next generation.

The "humans" with more hair might had died because the Earth's temperature increased, sure, they didn't died all in one generation, that's stupid to say. But as time passed, they died out.

What decides what is or not needed? The Enviroment. If species X can't adapt to the enviroment, species X dies. If species X doesn't have a mutation to adapt, species X will die. Simple as that.

Stating that random mutations happen "just because" as the basis of "natural selection" is quite ridiculous. The same term tells you, that they are selected naturally.. By nature around them.

Individuals can't change their genes to adapt to the environment, they pass on what they were born with.
You are misinformed if you believe otherwise.
Joe Camacho wrote:Stating that random mutations happen "just because" as the basis of "natural selection" is quite ridiculous.
Indeed, as basically only one-cell organisms depend on mutations to adapt to their environment.
Animals have sex instead of simply cloning (there is some weird blue lizard that does this but they're bound to die out quickly when their environment change) for a reason.
The individuals with the most beneficial features for surviving and producing healthy offspring will be more likely to have their genes passed on to the next generation.
But because they mix their genes with someone else's, their offspring will not be identical to them or each other, So those of an individual's offspring that, again, have he most beneficial features for surviving and producing healthy offspring will be more successful in passing on their genes.
This is what natural selection is.

Dude, you are hell bent in saying that because I say that they pass their genes, they CHANGE THEM ON THEIR FREE WILL. That's not what I'm saying.

What I'm saying is that as time passes, those that haven't died out because they weren't fit to live in the enviroment, will die, they as individuals don't evolve, but the species as a WHOLE evolves.

Because those that do live, will pass the genes of those that were able to adapt to the condition that cause the others to die.

Using the appendix "theory" about what was used for, celloluse processing. We don't eat that much celloluse anymore, it's only a matter of time, before it dissappears. Just like our "tail".

Of course not. It's just that things like this:
Dude, you are so wrong. Appendixes will disappear thanks to evolution because the human being has evolved to such a state that it isn't needed anymore.
Why aren't we covered in fur/hair anymore? Because it isn't needed.

makes me think you lack understanding of how evolution really works.
The appendix will only disappear if not having one (or a smaller one) gives an individual an advantage in passing on their genes.
I can't really see how it does now with our medical technology and food production, as I said before.

Please provide reasons for why you think it's going to go away other than that we simply "don't use/need it", if you want to have a real discussion.

Because all of those things have depended on our enviroment! Geez, We lost our fur when the climate change, those "humans" that had fur died off.
Those who endured the climate change reproduced.

When humans started walking and using tools, and didn't need to climb trees and stuff like that, those who had tails and chimp like feet started to die out, because they weren't needed. But those who met the standards were able to reproduce.

As the "human" started to use his brian, the brain started to be more necessary, so those humans without the "big brain" gene, died out. Those with "big brains" reproduced.

Appendix will eventually dissappear because it's useless to the human body, just as the coccygeal bone. That's my reason, and I think it's a pretty good one, if you don't want to take is as a "valid" one, that's not my problem.

But hey, Appendixes have already started to disappear from human bodies, so there. As Humans continue "not needing" the appendix, it's bound to disappear, unless we suddenly start having large ammounts of celloluse in our diets. It's been THOUSANDS of years since humans stopped having considerable ammounts of celloluse, if any, in their diets. So it's natural that those organs that were used to maintain that function start becoming weak, and eventually dissapearing. Just like our tails, we have only a small bone, that doesn't have any other function.

I made evolution because I'm lazy. I got sick of having to tweak everything every time I made a change to anything.

So everyone shut up.

God, that's something I have never understood. In the good ol' biblical days, I would use the lord's name in vain and you would flood the world.

Now I use your name in vain, and I lose my internet conection, what's up with that?

You should go back to Sunday school.
Exodus 32:6 states "merciful and gracious, long-suffering", so you're given time to repent, you won't get smitten in a day.

Regarding the flood that you mentioned, Genesis 6:3 mentions that after the people started turning evil, they were given 120 years to repent. Genesis 7:4 states that Noah was told that an additional 7 day leeway was given. Furthermore, over there in verse 12, it says there was rain water, while in verse 17, it says it was a flood, which shows that even when it only started raining, the people still didn't repent, and then it became a flood.

There's risk involved in appendicitis and appendectomies. So there should be a slight tendancy towards people that don't get appendicitis.
Since appendicitis is usually caused by an obstructed appendix exit, there should be a bias towards wider appendix openings, because they live longer and can have more kids.
End result is an opening big enough that there's no distinct chamber anymore.

Admittedly, this will be more relevant in populations that can't afford quality medical care. So 3rd-world nations and urban slums are the hotbeds of evolution for modern man.

I knew someone was going to say this, but by the basic rules of science someone must witness and make record and then test it repeatedly for it to be perceived as a working hypothesis.

long story short, you can't say something is science unless there is TANGIBLE evidence that it is occurring, there are no models or fossils ANYWHERE that show that macro evolution is happening.

also natural selection can get fucked up, I mean suppose that humans became extinct by dinosaurs, then the dinos freeze to death, everyone is fucked.

As far as internal organs vanishing you would need a person to get mutated dna so they do not have that organ schematic in their dna, then they need to procreate and create more people without that internal organ, then kill every other person in the world that does procreate that organ, I say the chances are slim.

AGAIN PEOPLE! EVOUTION DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT! We did NOT evolve to what we are through mutation, but through MIXING GENES WITH OTHER INDIVIDUALS.
Only fucking bacteria and viruses evolve solely through mutation because they reproduce by cloning themselves.
Fucking actually has a purpose beyond entertainment.
Mutated individuals are almost always born sterile anyway.

If you do not understand this then STFU about evolution.

Please, for the sake of my blood pressure.

Sorry. Carry on.

I could have sworn I read an article in the past two years that theorizes that our evolution took a turn some thousands/millions years ago to some worldwide viral infection that mutated our dna. Come to think of it though, it was most likely debunked because I never saw any follow up after the original article and published paper on the matter.

Edit: Shit my memory is going to hell anymore it looks like it was 5 years ago. Article I read.
