Use NSRT to fix or trim the rom if necessary.

It shouldn't break savestates or anything of the sort. The game should run as normally intended.

since nsrt forum still down, i will ask it here:

"-trim" is force trim (use with caution, not suggested for mass trimming)
"-safetrim" is trimming when the result in database

this what happen to me:

i have rom that has good checksum (nsrt told so), but nsrt also said it being overdump. safetrim wont trim it (it seem for not in database), but force trim do, the result is works properly, result checksum is good {case A}

other rom has bad checksum (as being patched with translation .ips) and nsrt also told that the rom probably overdump.
safetrim wont trim it obviously,
but if i force trim it, the rom won't work anymore (luckyly i backup that rom, as nsrt readme suggest), result checksum is bad {case B}

i have plenty rom with case-A and case-B in one directory, so i would like propose another triming condition: trim when result checksum is good (doesn't have to be exist in database)
this new trim method may moderately used for mass trimming rom in directory

NSRT will never include translated ROMs in it's database. The best thing you can do in that case is get a good original ROM, and soft-patch it with an original patch (downloaded from the translator's web site).

I usually just make a copy of the untranslated ROM, adjust the filename (from (J) to (U) or similar) and rename the IPS file accordingly.

Btw. you can create patches with good checksums if you know what you're doing. :wink:

If you have a list of games after a forced trim still work properly and maintain a good checksum, I'll be interested in a list of them.

I think I weeded these out a while ago though...
Be warned though that the next NSRT will have improved checksum calculation, so it's quite possible certain cases which you think are correct aren't. So give me a list, and I'll double check them with the rest of my staff.
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.
