LOL! Haha...

So amazing it's almost hard to believe that's an actual game hack and not just some video edit... In any cases, good stuff.
Anyone knows where the original .IPS can be found?

This is NOT totally awesome. It gets points for trying, but fails for making Mario invincible and having a few places where enemies go right through his head without so much as scratching him.

If you're going to do a thing, why not do it properly already :/

Where? Afaik its seems a legit rom hack without using cheat codes. The places where it would appear Mario is getting hit are more likely "edge cases" (games often have imperfect colision detections). Also remember Mario cannot be killed while riding Yoshi (save for pits and such), he'll simply fall off and be granted a few seconds of invinsibility.

Starting at about 2:10 in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8M1NYCgJWQ there are a number of cases where the saws plainly go through Mario's head. Similarly at about 1:12 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHd6ZAnSuuM

Sorry, I just don't buy it.

Edit:
And even if those could count as so-called "edge cases" at 1:22 in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6FK3LzHK8U Mario's head clearly passes through a ghost, and he doesn't die. Same with the fire at 2:21.

I really didn't expect a comment like that from you, of all people. ;)

Small Mario's head seems to have a much shorter hit zone than big Mario's head. A lot can pass through it:

If you think this is cheating, fire up SMW and try for yourself to see how long you can stand under the piranha plant and not get hit.

And another thing, they made the levels, they have full control over what appears where. If Mario died at one point, why on earth would they do something like make him invincible, instead of just making the platform dip for a second or something similar, like, well, what they pretty much did everywhere in these videos?

It helps to play around with "Mario's head profile" a bit.. this is same reason why Big Mario+Yoshi in one Valley of Bowser 2 would never reach the key area... the hat isn't really hurting you.. but the total height is noticable..

they're definately using some kind of codes. the whole level is like ice, you can see mario slipping at the end. plus when the turtle shell goes through that little maze of spent blocks, it doesn't act right, it kinda delays when it hits something and turns around, plus when it goes upwards, it actually goes inside some of the blocks. that may be normal behavior, I've never seen turtle shells propel themselves upwards.

Let me cite another example of Mario's height profile. In Forest of Illusion 2 (water level), when that fish hovers directly under the Green "!" block, try to be directly under that and try to hit the block. With small Mario, you will not get hurt... with big Mario, you will get hit more often than not.

phonymike, it is some oddcase scenario that people don't usually notice until they experience it. If you are talking about rotating blocks, they usually limit you to making up to 4 to rotate.. and the next one you hit will stop the earliest rotating block from rotating... it is abusing one of the interesting mechanics of the game is what this hack is doing.

I got glitch-killed due to that.

Forget which stage, but there's one with big vertical colums of spinner blocks. Spinjump into it with a cape and start wiggling around and you can get "stuck" in the despinning bricks and forced into the wall.
I forget if it scored as a crushing death or if I fell off the bottom of the map.

why does mario never walk? he slides along and never turns around ever when he clearly should oO.

several parts provide much more forward momentum then what you should be able to get.

He 'should' never turn around, the directions are never held. Only Y+B at the end of that first vid, as the sign says.

Most (all ?) of the ground is ice-propertied. Nothing special, it's a romhack ffs. Go read on the SMW engine before opening your mouth.

I usually pulled that kind of stuff in Star Road 1. Both crushing and falling are possible depending where you end up, of course.
