Nvidia blur in Windows XP

Post by Esturk »

One thing that always bugged me about nvidia cards, was the blur in any mode other than 640x480 DR in Zsnes under Windows XP.

I've recently installed Vista Ultimate x64 on my computer. To my surprise, there's no more blur! What's different in Vista? The nvidia blur seems to not occur in Vista.

I believe that has to do with ZSNES using Video Memory for acceleration by default. Filtering is auto-enabled under OSes prior to Vista. It isn't a coincidence that this is occuring.

Turn off DDraw acceleration via dxdiag.

Yes, but it won't be hardware-accelerated.

So if Zsnes were to use D3D, this blur wouldn't occur right?

It's a simple change in the source to use system memory rather than video memory, shame that it was never made an actual option in the software.
