Speedlink SL-6502 PSX2 Gamepad Converter button remaping?

Post by ST Dragon »

Hello,
I recently bought the SL-6502 PSX2 Gamepad Converter
and installed the latest WinXP drivers (sl-6502_03_07)
from the drivers section speed-link home site (Same as
the ones in the enclosed mini-disc)
http://www.gc-plus.de/bin/sl-6507/sl-6502_03_07.zip

http://www.speed-link.com/
http://images.speed-link.de/prodpics/SL ... 6502_1.jpg

The converter works perfectly with my standard SONY
PS2 gamepad, but I have a few queries concerning the
button setup and properties.

If I run “Game Controllers” from the WinXP control
panel, the default button state designations are as
follow (By pressing / testing the buttons on the
gamepad):

Button 1: Triangle
Button 2: Circle
Button 3: X
Button 4: Square
Button 5: L2
Button 6: R2
Button 7: L1
Button 8: R1
Button 9: Select
Button 10: Start
Button 11: Left Analog Stick
Button 12: Right Analog Stick

What I would like to do is change the button
designation from the WinXP “Game Controllers menu” and
permanently assign them to:

Button 1: Square
Button 2: X
Button 3: Circle
Button 4: Triangle
Button 5: L1
Button 6: R1
Button 7: L2
Button 8: R2
Button 9: Select
Button 10: Start
Button 11: Left Analog Stick
Button 12: Right Analog Stick

The reason I want to do this is because a lot of WinXP
games do not allow you to remap the gamepad keys to
suit my gaming needs and the default button
designations from the SL-6502 drivers are not ideal
for me.

My System:
WinXP PRO SP-2 English
Intel Core2 Duo @ 2.4GHZ 4MB Cache
ASUS P5B-E M/B 8-USB ports (The SL-6502 PSX2 Gamepad
Converter is connected to the front USB port)
2GB DDR-2 PC6400 800MHZ
Sound Blaster Live 5.1! (PCI)
Nvidia GeForce 7950 512MB PCI-X
SeaGate 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM
SeaGate 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM
SeaGate 500GB ATA 7200RPM
ASUS 16X DVD-ROM
Plextor 18X DVD-Recorder PX-810SA

So, is there any way to change the default button
designations from the SL-6502 WinXP drivers?

Thanks in advance.

never heard of it and never heard of reassigning indexs' of buttons for a controller. I guess you could use ppjoy and glovepie to make a second joystick out of it and use that second joystick, and map whatever button to whatever you want inside glovepie.

Please excuse my ignorance.
What's ppjoy & glovepie.

By the way, is there another PS2 to USB converter that has the default button designations like this?

Button 1: Square
Button 2: X
Button 3: Circle
Button 4: Triangle
Button 5: L1
Button 6: R1
Button 7: L2
Button 8: R2
Button 9: Select
Button 10: Start
Button 11: Left Analog Stick
Button 12: Right Analog Stick

Anyway, what do you people use to play 2D shooters & emulated console game on the PC?
I used to use my trusty 10Button MS Sidewinder Joypad, but it can only be connected via the old-school game port found on older Sound Cards, however my new card has none and so I'm stuck with this sollution!

X-Box 360 Joypads might work peferctly in WinXP but they're just not my cup of tea!

Where could I buy a brand new 10 Button USB MS Sidewinder Joypad?
That would solve all my problems!

I have a few weapons of choice.

A Saitek P880.
An XBox Controller S, with an adapter cable.
A Hori joystick for the 360.

360 d-pad suskc. That makes them a horrible choice for precision gaming.

sorry it took so long to respond.
http://www.geocities.com/deonvdw/PPJoy.htm use this to create a virtual joystick

http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie_download use this to write a script to map what buttons you have on your physical joystick to the corresponding buttons on the virtual joystick.
