Just start Googling: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Wi ... tnG=Search
You should be able to find what you need to know as I really don't want to step-by-step through this.

ZSNES will create the files if and only if it is able to have full read/write access in the folder.PyroMario wrote:Now that I'm thinking about it, can ZSNES create .srm files and save them to a USB Memory Stick, or can it only create save files for Read-only folders?
Otherwise, you will experience this with other emus and that's not really a ZSNES specific problem.
If your memory stick is mapped to a drive letter, ZSNES should have no problem read/writing to it if there are no restrictions on the drive itself.

So does this mean I can go into the Config-> Path and designate the saves to go to the letter drive for my USB drive (E:\), and the USB stick will work like a memory card for ZSNES?Deathlike2 wrote:ZSNES will create the files if and only if it is able to have full read/write access in the folder.PyroMario wrote:Now that I'm thinking about it, can ZSNES create .srm files and save them to a USB Memory Stick, or can it only create save files for Read-only folders?

EDIT: I tried it, but it didn't work. Either I entered the path wrong or my USB won't work as a save/read. Are there any default folders and/or drives on Windows XP that are read/write directories?
How exactly did you enter it?PyroMario wrote:EDIT: I tried it, but it didn't work. Either I entered the path wrong
Your USB drive will work just fine, unless you can't write to it period (i.e. you have a physical switch set to locked or it's broken).PyroMario wrote:or my USB won't work as a save/read.
Yes. Just about all of them.PyroMario wrote:Are there any default folders and/or drives on Windows XP that are read/write directories?
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.
I entered E:\ into Config -> Path, but nothing happened after I saved at the save point in game and then quit.odditude wrote:How exactly did you enter it?PyroMario wrote:EDIT: I tried it, but it didn't work. Either I entered the path wrong
And as for the read/write directories, are there any particular ones that you would recommend I use for save files?
I think I might have thought of something else that might affect ZSNES' ability to create .srm save files. If ZSNES is located in a read-only folder, will it be unable to create .srm game save files? If not, then where on Windows XP would be a good default read/write folder or drive to direct ZSNES game saves?

I already suggested a solution. First create a folder that has full read/write capability. Then move the files into it (and not the folders). It's not a hard concept to grasp.PyroMario wrote:I think I might have thought of something else that might affect ZSNES' ability to create .srm save files. Part of the problem is when you created a folder that has limited permissions, every file/folder created under that will have those same permissions unfortunately, which is what you are experiencing.

I'm using Windows XP to run ZSNES, so the OS was not the problem. Like the person above me stated, it was the ZSNES version, which I was able to figure out after searching topics on why SMRPG was freezing. By switching versions to 1.42, I not only was able to save in game, but I was also able to solve freezing issues that were present in 1.51.pixelpowered wrote:wtf? really? I've never had any problems with super mario rpg with 1.51... that's just friggin weird... crazy question, but what operating system are you using? vista does some strange things to me regarding saves sometimes, but xp seems perfectly ok, as does ubuntu.

I'm also running XP without any problems with Mario RPG.
It seemed to me that you expected the .srm's to be saved in the rom's folder (as outlined). My saves don't go there.
Desktop file>ZSNES stuff>Mario RPG>.srm's
My saves go on the same level as the rom itself.
Desktop file>ZSNES stuff>.srm's
It's messy because all of my roms and save files are dumped into a huge, unnavigable pile of folders and files under my "ZSNES stuff" folder. I never mess with it manually, I just work with it through the ZSNES application.

Last I heard, 1.51 is a bad choice for SMRPG. It does have problems emulating that game, problems that were introduced sometime after 1.42 (which is what I use with SMRPG).PyroMario wrote: I'm using Windows XP to run ZSNES, so the OS was not the problem.
