Scanlines bug on Secret of Mana

Post by Ph4n70m »

Hiho all =]
First of all, sorry for my english, it isn't my mother language, I speak portuguese...

Well, I really love scanlines at 640x480, but in SoM the words seems very illegible, look at this screen:

Image

If I use filter HQ3x, it won't work on this screen... but work ingame...

I don't know how to explain this problem, I hope you understand :)

Thanks

This is due to that screen using the SNES' Hi Res mode. ZSNES cannot apply filters when using Hi Res.

In your scanline shot, the resolution has been reduced from Hi Res to normal res, causing text to appear bunched together.

With HQ3X, the filter simply doesn't do anything in Hi Res modes.

Thanks very much :)

I didn't knew that screen of SoM was using hi-res.

I saw this problem when trying to apply hq3x with hi-res mode 7 option on Super Mario Kart.

EN: Being a bit noob, what does characterize the hi-res?
And, if I use the scanlines even so, will I lose some "graphics" of the game or only the text of the information will be like this? Because the text from within of the game with the speeches are perfectly normal...

Using BG modes 5 or 6, or enabling bit 3 in register 2133h.

It means that the normal horizontal resolution of 256 pixels is increased to 512 pixels.

Be careful with pseudo-hires.
MAJOR difference on mosaic effects. :p

As far as I can remember, that status screen (and the character naming screen) is the only place that high-res is ever used. You can just play the rest of the game without worrying about lost graphical detail.

Magic status
AI setting

Window edit

"Only" 5/7 of the ring menu stuff.

Haha yeah I should have probably said "the status screens" and I would've been right. >_> Yes, all that stuff falls under status screens. Shush.
