Vista Sp1

Post by darkbenny »

I've been seeing mentions of this as of April 15, anybody installed?

I've also heard that it seriously buttered up select users PCs, so i am leery about pursuing it.

I'll likely grab a copy eventually once everything is ironed out, if only for some potential performance enhancements.

Hi,

I watched ClickOnline sometimes ago and they were saying it made Vista really fast. Too big to download for my dialup so can't test personally.

stay safe,

if you have kept your vista up to date then the Windows Update version of the pack is supposedly really small.

32-bit installed - no noticeable change in performance nor any post-install issues here.

The download from Windows Update was surprisingly small, but I can't remember the exact size.
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

No noticable change here either, although it's anything but small at 434MB.

did you get it from windows update too, casualax? If you did and you kept your computer up to date prior to downloading the service pack, the service pack download would be quite small since the bulk of it is just all the updates microsoft has released on windows update since vista's release.

The standalones are always relatively huge, as they incorporate ALL of the hotfixes, including ones you don't need (aka specific for home premium/business/ultimate/enterprise).

Just downloaded it; came in around 64MB.

Things seem a little speedier, mostly in relation to HDD activity.

I downloaded it and didn't notice any big changes in performance.

Of course now I have Ubuntu on my laptop and rarely use Vista.

It's mostly a bug fix type deal. The only real improvement people who kept updated will notice is the copying large files fix. It's been sped up by quite a bit, IIRC.

If you do any gaming on Vista, performance increase is noticeable.

Installed in all PCs in the office, I see no visible changes. My brother's notebook however, has trouble looking at his Iphone (not before).
