EarthBound Blackscreen

Post by pleskit9999 »

Ok, I've been playing Earthbound for a while now, probably about an hour in, Still dealing with the mobsters in Onett, for those of you who have played the game. Suddenly, I got a black screen and for some dumb reason decided to save state, quit out ZSNES, and load it back up in hopes that it will work. Now I'm stuck with a black screen, Is there anyway to salvage the saved state? Really not looking forward to having to play through the game until the point I was at again :O.

Thanks for your time, Orannis

A save state stores the exact copy of the emulators 'state' the moment you save the state, so if you got a black screen in-game and you saved a state, then obviously you will get a black screen when you load that state.

No, there isn't a way to salvage your gameplay if you saved the state at a moment when the emulator decided to stop cooperation.

Also, please post the NSRT output of your ROM.

Did you save in-game? Or did the save-state over-write your in-game save?

I had a similar situation happen to me with FFVI... except I was using a fan-translation... and I was in the Esper factory... place.

1. How would I go about getting the NSRT output?
2. And, the emulator black screened, I saved state, quit the emulator, and tried to reopen it agian. Does that answer your question?

nsrt is a program used to obtain various information about ROMs. However since the site is/was down, just post the CRC32 number of the ROM (it appears when you start the ROM.)
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?
NSRT here.

You can get NSRT from other sites too (e.g. this one).

You really need to learn to save in-game (for Earthbound, it's using the phone options). Relying on savestates for everything is a diasterous proposition.

This seems to be a genuine emulation bug, because the ROM image checks out.

Ayup. That about sums the thread up.

Even if you use states, use regular saves too. That way you have something to fall back on when everything goes wrong.

Well, unless it all goes wrong in FF3, but...
