Homebrew for the DS.

Post by Blasingame »

I just got an R4 in the mail for my DS, what do people recomend for homebrew? I've heard moonshell and DSOrganize, any other homebrew worthwhile for giving the NDS more use than just gaming?

If you like to draw, I'd try out Colors!.
Try out CCleaner and other free software at Piriform

Heard that R4/SD card is pretty nice for homebrewn stuff. Stuff like SnesDS/SnemulDS and other emulators are now a lot better than they used to be when they originally came out for the DS. A good place for emulators on the DS is http://nintendo-ds.dcemu.co.uk/ (this is for emulators only and NOT for ROMs).

Nothing to add. If you try it check out the website too. There are thousand of user submitted "replays" of drawings. (many of which are excellent too)

Other than that, the wikipedia page on ds homebrew gives a pretty extensive list (heh at least wikipedia is useful for SOMETHING)

To Neobahamut: I rather have the Acekard 2 or the CycloDS Evolution with a Micro SD of 8GB.

Huge list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ni ... S_Homebrew.

In b4 angry claims from the thread starter saying that he already searched Wikipedia for himself...

[edit] I just discovered that someone before me already recommended Wikipedia. :S Oh, well. I guess I added something by linking. D:

Happy now?! I also fixed the last post.

MoonShell is a nice homebrew application who is mentioned on Wikipedia linked on the post above.

The problem with most Homebrew is that the majority runs on Slot-2 cards...

It'd also be a good idea to check for home brew compatibility. Just scroll down to the bottom of the wiki. Also the R4 is already loaded up with Moonshell.

DS Linux is pretty good, too. You can browse the web and chat at the same time. I even got low bitrate shoutcast streams to work with a custom build (checking the mp3play option).

Thanks for the list, never thought wiki had an article on it.

Thanks for the compatibility list. I know i'm only limited to 2-4 GB SD cards for the R4. I've been hearing good things of the R4, but I guess I can give Acekard and cycloDS a run in the future after R4.

Edit: The wiki mentioned a R4DS ROM Trimmer 2.0, which seems it may be helpful.

it's not homebrew, per se, since it's a utility by the R4 team, available at their website.

rominator or nds tokyo rom trimmer will also trim roms for you. i use the latter, sans any kind of skin

Hey no problem, I brought a friend of mine one too and he enjoys the hell out of it. Hopefully though it wont keep you from buying retail games. There's a few games out there actually worth paying for. *cough* Final Fantasy IV DS.. :D

Ah I haven't been playing much of anything either. Normally I hear about games from other people. But hrm Etrian Odyssey II is supposedly decent according to people who liked the first game. Since you have a flash card you might want to check out the Soma Bringer partial translation too. It's a fun little action rpg by the same people who did baiten Katos.

Edit: forgot the link to the translation http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=78947

What about Mister Driller?

Out of my collection, I'd also strongly recommend Feel The Magic, Wario: Master of Disguise, and Trace Memory. And Phoenix Wright.
