MP3 Players

Post by badinsults »

I hate lugging my laptop to work, when all I use it for is listening to music. What are some recommended MP3 players?

Apple iPod touch. Hate to be the Apple fanboy, but it does preform pretty good..

Barring that, the Sony Network Walkman is good too. It can even put up with a whole lot of bullshit and it still works.
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

I have nothing to suggest, but don't get a RCA... They're not so bad, but their randomness in song selection really isn't worth anything.

I like my sansa e280. It's a v1, so it has a bit of a problem with the wheel, but that has been fixed by the v2. I got the sansa cause I didn't want to be a tool and get an ipod like the rest of the universe.

SanDisk Sansa M240. I've had it for a year and it hasn't once annoyed me or failed to do something I want from an MP3 player. No stupid special program required for file transfer or any such BS.

SanDisk Sansa M230 here.

Found it by chance lying close to the center of a round-about an early
summer morning last year. An excellent little bugger in terms of quality
and ease of use. I don't use it much as I don't have much of a need to
listen to music wherever I go, but as far as I can tell it seems to be
very battery efficient.

I have a 30GB ipod video. all banged and scratched the fuck up. got it for $10. I love it, plays music great, battery's good, and haven't put any music on it in months cause it has all my music already. I use it everyday in my car to and from work, because some assholes messed up my car pc setup.

Not an option, they have the network so locked up I can't even get Internet Explorer 7. Even streaming radio is forbidden. I'd rather not get fired.

The Sandisk players sound alright, but they are rather expensive. Why pay $180 for a 16 GB Sandisk player when I can get a 120 GB Ipod for $250?

As a Linux user, what are the downfalls of having an Ipod?

Do you have some HDD space available to you ?

In which case, just copy your music over and be done with it ?

I doubt they would allow it if they go as far as he describes.

anything larger than(16 GB?) is a HD based player - one sharp force at the right time and its toast(like dropping such a foot while its playing)).

but, seriously, do you really need a month's worth of music on you?

you can fit a day's worth of music in a GB of space.

I have a 32GB flash player.

The most likely rule is power of 2 = flash, power of 10 = hard drive.

I'm still using my 2gb Creative Nomad Muvo.

It plugs directly into the USB port seen as a flash drive, just drag music into the device and you're done. No frills playback though, and runs on one AAA battery.

I got it dirt cheap when they were clearing the shelves to make room for second gen iPod nanos. I havent used anything else really, (well except for my PSP).

I don't really see the point of having > 1 or 2 GB of MP3's with you. At least the advantages can't be worth all that extra $$$?

I knew this guy once. He had all his music on his ipod. Then he formated his computer a reinstalled. When he plugged in his ipod itunes "synced" with his ipod by erasing all music off it which wasn't in his itunes library, which was all of it.

If I was to get an MP3 player, I wouldn't want to get a hard disk player. I don't trust myself to not drop it. :( That said, 8-16GB is probably the best bang/buck range

that is a downside. but there is manual control. and he was kind of stupid. i have my entire library on my 160 GB classic. it's nice to know that my entire library is at my fingertips.

Your mistake was taking Franpa seriously, or even taking him at all.

I've been using an 80 gig ipod video for at least a year now... I installed rockbox on it, which works very nicely for a linux install (and in general, actually). Rockbox has gotten really stable lately, so I'd highly recommend it for any media player they're supporting.

Two big upsides:
1) Keep your music in the format you got it in, for the most part (since it plays mp3s, wavs, wmas, flac, etc)
2) Doesn't sync with the computer you use, so if your computer gets sipwed you'll still be able to very easily transfer your songs back on there from your player. Also means you can give/take music from any computer you want, as long as you've got an ipod cable on you.
I bring the trouble.
