I'm done with school.

Post by Joe Camacho »

Today, december 3th, 2008.

I handed in my last assignments for two of my remaining classes, Public Security and Juristic Evaluation Methology.

I still I have to do my thesis (I hope to have it typed in 3-4 months), graduation ceremony (Which will be until may next year, oh well) and all that, but for the time being, I'm done with school.

I'm so excited.

So, how are you guys doing??

so yeah, life is great but I am going back into school :P but congratulations to you.

Awesome dude. I finished school a year ago, and it is very nice to be away from it for a while.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, for one thing I'm glad I don't have to take classes anymore, I'm already working at a law firm, so it's not like I'm unemployed.

But feeling so glad about leaving school is making me have doubts about studying a masters, but I also want to teach, so I think I should suck it up.

It's my understanding that if you want to hit it particularly well when it comes to lawyering, you ought to do Masters.

Yes, well, you see, the Mexican Law system is quite different from the one in the US.

Here in México, you only need a Bachelors Degree in order to practice and be paid as a lawyer or advocate.

Studying a masters degree would give me more knowledge on a particular field of law that I like (Civil and Merchant Law), and will eventually would let me teach, which is also something I like.

But right now, I don't know if I could study for 2 more years, maybe I'm fed up with school right now, I would like to finish my thesis ASAP and get to work.

Skipping the unemployed phase is pretty slick

at the same time, that phase is fucking sweet if you're not stranded for cash, so you may me missing on it.

Oh well. Congrats, and don't forget to set landmines in all the schools you've been with to celebrate.

Cool Joe, I know the feeling! When I finished my Master's I knew I had no more exams ever. Had to wait almost a year for the ceromony and an agonising couple months for the results.

However, I still got almost three years left at University, as I just started again in October! At least this time around I'm being paid to do it rather than the other way round, and there are no written exams as it is a PhD. I do have to pass a transfer viva and the actual viva, which will probably make me crap my pants though.

Have fun and get drunk as everyone has said!

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I actually talked with one of my teachers, which was actually my supervisor during my social service, when I told her I wanted to do a master degree in Civil and Merchant Law she told me I was "wasting my potential" and that I could study a master in any place of the world, that I should try to go to England, US, Argentina or Chile.

But I would like to stay in order to study and be abe to work as a lawyer.

When I told her that, she told me "Leave advocating to the common folk, to those that are graduating and don't know what to do, you have the capacity to become a SCIENTIST OF LAW"

"Suuuure, I'll think about it."

Well, call me wierd but I actually like the homework I get. (granted, I only have exams, and no coursework in the courses I'm taking).

Physics is interesting. Maths is fun. Programming is awesome fun.

Still, I'll always like Fridays and GTA4, too.

No, it doesn't.

To be perfectly honest, scientists get paid shitty-ass salaries most of the time.

Since Joe can practice with just a BA (or is it BS?), he should do no more work unless he thinks it'll help him do his job better and for more money.

I fail to see how he'd contribute more to society as a scientist of law rather than someone who would actually get cases through judges, aka get shit actually done.
