Newest WIP binaries?

Post by shaktazuki »

I'm having issues with FFII (mode 7 doesn't work right in misty cave fighting, missing line in text menus) and Chrono Trigger (sound issues).

Where can I find WIP binaries which are more recent than 2 years old?

Thanks!

Mode 7 has nothing to do with fighting in the Mist Cave.

There has been no WIP binaries post 1.51, but you can always try http://www.ipherswipsite.com/

The last SVN compiled version should have it fixed, but don't bother antipicating any more builds unless various issues are resolved.

Mode 7 has nothing to do with fighting in the Mist Cave.
That's not a mode 7 effect when the random encounter begins and the screen zooms in and out briefly prior to the fight?
i think SVN 4538 works.
How do I get a Windows binary for that??

Thanks!

I believe the map to battle transition is called the mosaic effect, but I could be wrong. A good example of Mode 7 is when you're flying in an airship.

Eh, I'm ignorant; I only noticed it changes when "Hires Mode 7" is on, so I assumed it to be a mode 7 effect.

The mosiac effect is when the screen becomes scrambled.. for instance, it is used for battle in any cave. It is also used in battle when you run away or when you're poisoned and walking.

Move 7 is used exclusively on the overworld.

Well, it doesn't work right in the misty cave; how do I get that SVN binary, if it's available?

Thanks!

Have you actually checked the link?

The Mist Cave's issue has nothing to do with Mode 7.. it has more to do with the mosaic effect and transparancies.

I had followed a different link to the same site earlier; I just tried the one you presented and got the binary, thanks! The same issues present themselves (though the FF2 menu problem is gone) - the Misty Cave effect in FF2 doesn't work right, and if you go to Heckran Cave in Chrono Trigger, the background sound becomes a massively annoying white-noise hiss; this audio issue comes up more than just there, too.

However, those issues aside, I like your work!

Yeah, the SVN builds (except one) doesn't have sound at the moment, at least not until major core changes take place (unless they already have).

4538 is the last svn build to have working sound.

I don't think I've played to that point in ZSNES, but I believe ZSNES (as most emulators) have long had trouble emulating Chrono Trigger's sound properly.
I suppose it'll be fixed in 2.0 if it is using the same sound engine as bsnes?
(which has much more accurate sound)

In the meantime SnesGT's sound is only second to BSNES, but honestly, I can't tell the difference between the two. Both emulate the Chrono Trigger sounds very close to real hardware. Zsnes 2.0 will use the BSNES sound core, so, that too, will be very accurate. In fact, here's what Chrono Trigger's supposed to sound like, using SnesGT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ThG5CYzoK0&fmt=18 (BTW, I hate youtube's way of converting FLVs; sorry for the compression artifacts).

Well, it's a tradeoff - Zsnes does video resolution / monitor sync exactly right; smooth as glass at 1280x800. The others, not so much so.

Edit: I haven't gotten that far in the game! Warn someone next time!

i'm pretty sure it doesn't covert *.flv's. converts to, yes.

there is a thread around here with a great config file for spitting out flv files directly. they look quite nice when thrown onto youtube.

I know Zsnes has a movie recording feature; I was merely demonstrating to
KingMike that in the meantime, SnesGT and BSNES have the best sound emulation. Can you name any free programs that record flash with better quality?

Have you tried CamStudio?

Anyway, you probably need some fine-control over the codec's quality settings (bitrate etc).

I'll try version 5.0 and see how that does.

Edit 10:03AM : Can't seem to get the audio from being too loud (even though the volume is way down on the menu). Any ideas?

Audacity, Cool Edit, Goldwave, etc?

(Even Winamp+Diskwriter might be able to reduce the volume.)

Yeah, one of those will work. Any good codecs that won't make the file over 500MB?

I'm using DivX and MP3 for my uploads. Experiment a bit with the video bitrates; for better results you can use "first pass (fast)", followed by "Nth pass" with the same settings. 10 minutes at 2000 kbps resulted in about 160 MB in my last video.

Btw. I'm using VirtualDubMod (among others) and the k-lite codec pack, plus the lossless Lagarith codec during editing.
