that movie about the boy who happens upon a dog (or did the dog happen upon the boy?) that saves the boy's life more than once and was furiously loyal and always by his side

but then it got the rabies and had to be put down?

yeah

i haven't seen it in years. my sister wouldn't let me watch it anymore because it was too sad

Why do I suspect this thread is more than it appears at face value?

You are obviously more preceptive than some other posters.

It is a sad movie. The moral I got from it was that no matter how sad it is, sometimes you just have to put down the rabid dog.

For information, the rabies virion doesn't stand heat, so make sure you cook the dog well before eating.
