I highly recommend Braid
classic platforming action, with time manipulation!
the art is amazing, the music is gorgeous, and i'll let you know about the story if i can manage to solve all the puzzles. right now they've left me hanging there. but what i've got so far is nice.
the time manipulation mechanics are crazy. you don't die, since you just rewind time, and there are different abilities on different worlds. like a shadow that re-enacts what you just time reversed. a ring that slows time near it. a world where time moves forward or backward when you move forward or backward.
it's 15 bucks, so a little more expensive than most xbla offerings, but i think it's worth it.

I've been reading the blog for the game for some time, it's one more reason I'd like to have a 360... strange how I mostly feel that way because of XBLA games over normal 360 ones.
Anyway, I'm glad you like it, and somehow knew that it was you who made the thread without even looking. Dude's got taste.

I bring the trouble.

almost.
there was a moment when i was playing last night where i was all omfgwtfwoot, it was seriously incredible game design.
and i know you're a man who loves his 2D. The artistic style on this one is spot on, and is a huge part of why this game is so amazing.

I had so many of these moments playing the game yesterday. I finished it, only really had a problem with three or four of the puzzle pieces, and the final level is awesome in a can.sweener2001 wrote:there was a moment when i was playing last night where i was all omfgwtfwoot, it was seriously incredible game design.

i am all kinds of stumped in world 5 right now.
crossing the gap, the piece right above the exit door. i'm not asking for help, yet, but that piece is standing in front of me and completion right now. i'm going for world 6 tomorrow, and after a few days i'll probably end up geting on a faq.
puzzlers are not a preferred genre, and i'm already pleased with my progress.
but YES, this game is incredible. fantastic gameplay, and super innovative. it's a great breath with all of the other sequel-itis i have.

Re: I recommend Braid on xbla
First got to know about this game today thanks to GFAQs,sweener2001 wrote:you don't die, since you just rewind time.
and the first thought that occured to me was 'ZSNES'. :-)
Seems to be a truly solid game, really. It'd be great if
they'd also release it for the Wii and/or Mac/Linux.

i heard about them, and watched a video detailing some of them, but i would have NEVER found any on my own.
i haven't played it since beating it a few days ago. i might try and go for the speed runner one eventually. i got lucky on fickle companion. a lot of the others i think i could bust out.
i might get the stars after the speed run, but it'd be a total faq thing.

my first "this game is a masterpiece moment" came during a piece in the first world.
there's another one with two purple doors and a green key later on that blew my mind.
and then there's this thread floating around that dissects the braid story and lays it all out for you. pure genius, jonathan blow

new date is april 10. apparently some bugs didn't want to quit on time.
