Sound resolution problem.

Post by Envergure »

Hi,

The sound in Super Mario World is all screwy. It seems like the sound "chip" is only checking for new sound events around 8-10 times per second. Consequently, the music is off-beat. Complex sounds (like Mario's spin-jump and the "growing mushroom" sound) sound like a blooping computer in a 1950s sci-fi movie. Is there a way to increase the event check frequency?

(I'm guessing what the cause of the problem is; That's the only thing I can think of)

Thanks
- Chris

This is due to Zsnes SPC700 (sound processor) not being in sync; the new Zsnes (which will be released before the next decade, meaning 2020). Until then, emulators SnesGT or Bsnes get the sound effects perfectly. The devs are more than aware of this issue.

you should work on being smart before you try being a smart-ass.

"before the next decade" would be by the end of 2010, as the next decade starts on 1/1/11.

I can't make those kind of promises, even you should know that by now.

I've all but lost hope on waiting for Zsnes 2.0, since it's been, gee, how many years? Over two years since 1.51?

Are you sure?

i tend to align the start of decades with the start of centuries (the 21st century started in 2001).

i have to agree that popular usage goes from 0 to 9, though.

either way, though, this decade ends significantly before 2020.

That sounds like a gross miscategorization.

The spin jump's initial note sounds more like a droplet of water from a kitchen sink hitting a baking pan. The rest of the clicking is somewhat of a cross between a cricket and a frog's chirping. Hmm ...

Anyways, the new SPC700 core will take care of that. And by the way I mentioned how Zsnes will take another decade merely because it's long overdue.

I know, I'm just making my opinions known. And even if I could/did help, would it really help Zsnes get released faster? That's what I thought.

You probably don't understand what help means then.
