"New Game+" in Chrono Trigger?

Post by coryb »

I beat the game and got to the "The End" screen. I reset the game in the menu, but there is no "New Game+" option. It just starts over at level 1. Is there something I am not seeing? I don't remember how this worked on the real cartridge.

Try enabling the "SRAM check + save" option.
Confgig menu, then select saves and it's on that panel.

On the real cartridge, you'd just reset after "The End"
As for why ZSNES isn't... *shrug*

I found out that to enable the New Game+ you must beat the game through the black omen rather than going directly to the Lavos boss. I did it this way and the New Game+ option is now enabled.

Thanks!

Aww, but ramming him with the Epoch is FUN!

I personally went through that bucket in the back. Apparantly I missed the whole magus arc! Maybe I'll go back and play it eventually.

'S the nice thing about Chrono Trigger. There's always something more.

Even if it's just swapping party members around to see different conversations when you meet Lavos/revive Crono.

How is Crono revived again? I can't remember.

Get the Time Egg from End of Time dude, get a clone from the memory game at the Millenial Fair, go to the Dome where you got the Epoch to plant trees to block the wind on the mountain, go to the mountain, kill baby Lavoses, use the carcass of one baby to climb to the top, and mushy scene!

Rape and pillage from Queen Zeal... three times. It's quite nice.

I remember on the actual cart using the new game+ to max out all stats on all characters. Took a while, but it got to where most of my magic spells did 9999 by that point.

Technically he's not revived.

The thing that gets dissolved is actually the doll you swapped him with (if you did the event), so he just jumps in time to safety.
The time egg was there to cause a little ZA WARUDO moment to make that swap possible without adding some more corpses to the matter.

If you don't do the subquest, he dies and stays dead.

Until Marle and company take the Epoch/a bunch of balloons through space and time to resurrect him after the credits.

Actually, that's my favorite ending.

Actually, I'd like to bring this issue up again...I'm having the same problem with being unable to load a New Game, let alone New Game +. I've beaten Lavos through the Black Omen (even read a walkthrough word by word) and still cannot figure out how to get to the "New Game" option. When I load Chrono Trigger, after all of the intro credits, it brings me directly to the "Active/Wait" screen.

I'm using a Macbook, and am running ZSNES through a .dmg (ZSNES-1.43pre.dmg).

I tried this unsuccessfully, as well. Any ideas?

Permissions issue? I don't know where Mac zsnes puts save data.

How would I go about finding that out? I opened the containing folder and there are a bunch of different filenames: I had been opening "Chrono Trigger (U).smc" with my emulator (because that was the only one available) but now I see there are a bunch of other ones. Does that have anything to do with it?

What files are those "bunch of other ones"?
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

.smc; .spc; .srm; .zs1; .zst;

and a readme which doesn't really tell me anything helpful. The only file that appears in my ZSNES without me having to enable "view all files" or whatever is the .smc.

Have you saved at all using in-game saves ?

Yes, I've been using both the sparkly save spots as well as the ZSNES save state.

You should be using the 1.51 compiled one in the Mac thread... not the 1.43 version that we hadn't had much involvement in.

OOOHHHH I see. By far the most helpful comment I've ever received. I downloaded/installed the new version and also enabled the "SRAM check + save" option as suggested above. I was so excited when it finally worked.

Thanks so much for the help!
