Duke Nukem Forever to officially get a release date

Post by adventure_of_link »

http://blog.games.yahoo.com/blog/333-du ... ng-in-may/

that's right, DNF will actually be released on May 3rd for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Other countries will get it on May 6th.

Always.
Fucking.
Bet.
On.
Duke.

That being said, it's time to kick some ass and chew some bubble gum.. and I'm all out of gum.

a yahoo games blog? interesting.

not doubting the veracity of the news (since it's been plastered on just about all major gaming sites), just the choice of the source.

it's like asking martha stewart to help me choose my next game. she might be able to help, but still.

for whatever reason, yahoo is set to my homepage and that's basically another source of how I get my news anymore.

Yes, and they even posted a censored version of the trailer that everyone got to see at Pax Prime last September.

this all seems pretty official. my copy of borderlands put me in the duke first access club, and they emailed everyone about it.

i'm pretty sure there was a press release, although i can certainly understand the skepticism.

So... is the game such a big deal that it's impossible to live up to the hype, or has it somehow actually BECOME hype?

The former, obviously. Nothing can live up to 15-years matured hype.

Hey, if it means we actually get a finished product instead of a buggy beta pushed on consumers AS a finished product? I'm all for the delay!

If it wasn't a buggy beta at launch, it wouldn't be a PC game.
Are you saying Duke needs to be a halfassed port of a console game? IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING?!?!

Aren't console games launched at beta these days too, I mean since patching became possible?

Duke may never come early, but by this point can he keep it up at all?

They still usually run out of the box with no major known crash issues.

The fact that "runs out of the box" is not a mandatory rule for shipping a PC game is incredibly sad.

I think the Wii is the current leader in stable software? Since you can't patch the games and it's rare for Wiiware titles to get an update you have to get it right the first time or use product recalls to fix problems in Wii games.

black ops has been patched, and a few of the more popular titles have been re-released with new version numbers.

having tried out a few of the shovelware titles and me-too ports, the wii is no less susceptible to buggy releases than anyone else.

True, but if you exclude the shovelware for all systems, out of the remaining games the Wii end up having the most stable and functional games without the need for a single patch to fix obvious errors.

but then you get games like Other M, which has a show-stopping, save-losing bug. and wii users are SOL. and the only reason that the wii was/is hacked is by exploiting glitches in games like zelda, smash bros., a lot of lego games, and some yugioh game.

i have found that, sure most single player games get at least one bugifx patch, but the majority of patches i download are for multi-player balance and exploit squashing.

i don't like that games pretty much ship as beta, but i do like that they can be fixed. the wii may be a bit more stable because they don't offer the ability natively, but as Other M demonstrates, it is needed.

also, /necessary jab about shovelware to quality ratio on wii. something something only a dozen games something.
