Windows NT/2000/XP

ZSnesW doesn't support Windows NT 4.0 as Windows NT 4.0 only has DirectX 3.0a foundation support.

You should say it more as Windows 2000/XP/2003.
I use Win98 and it works just great. :?
Shouldn't it be Windows 98/ME(does it work in ME :?: )/2000/XP.
Where are you geting "2003,"
Microsoft hasn't released any new Windows OS yet. Maybe you were
refering to the those SP1&2 Expansion Packs to the Win XP OS.

I believe he is referring to Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the newest in the server systems series of Windows.

That answers that Question, I wasn't aware of it because it was a
Server OS.

And you are correct, sir. I happen to have a 180-day trial edition of it, so I'd know. :)

I happen to have an un-trialed trial.

Do you currently have it installed on anything?

Let's see... I put it on my 6GB HDD in my comp, and after awhile of not using it, I reformatted that drive which had win 2k3 server on it and put Linspire on it.
PS: It MAY get some use by the end of the coming week, I'm going to try to fix someone's laptop with a harddrive problem.
*DISCLAIMER*: The trial edition that I have IS a 3-machine, 180-day licence, so it's good. :D

Would you do me a favor, please? Go to Notepad, go to Help --> About, and copy down the complete version string and paste it here.

oh, I forgot to mention the other reason,
I hadn't heard of it because I don't bother with Server OS's.
At least I haven't had a reason to yet, anyway.

You were talking to adventure_of_link, right?

Here is mine if it helps:
Windows Notepad application file
4.10.1998
I course I swithed all the settings over to Notepad2, I like it alot better.

If you want me to do that for Win 2k3 server, like I said a few posts back, I sacrificed it for my Linspire installation. But I guess I'll have to reinstall it...

Yes, I've heard there were different versions of the Win2K3 trial, and I wanted to check mine vs. his.

Hmm... my other 6GB needs a reformat anyhow... I'll just hook it up later, take off all my needed files and install win 2k3 server on that drive, get yer info, then destroy it again.

this may be a little off topic, but shouldn't this thread be merged together with this one: http://board.zsnes.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=754

We finally have working, 99% complete windows docs!

After finally sitting down and getting my ass in gear, I've completed most all of the Windows docs, and I am ready to release them to the public.

I've done my part. Sure, I'll be more than happy to update these docs with any suggestions you give me, but IT'S UP TO THE ZSNES COMMUNITY TO FINISH THE DOCS FOR THE OTHER PORTS. It won't take much effort at all to update the other docs, since there are very few differences.

ONCE WE HAVE THIS DONE, VERSION 1.4 WILL BE RELEASED!

Here is an archive of the docs (always most updated): http://richardc.silohware.com/zsnes_docs.zip

And here is an online version for anyone only interested in looking at them (shame on you!):
http://richardc.silohware.com/

I hope we can all work together and get these docs completed ASAP! It's up to us to create the most updated, complete documentation for ZSNES that we can.

EDIT:
Updated with new host (thanks Siloh!), along with much updated docs (not much visible).

Here's a zip file of the docs that is comressed better (smaller size), and doesn't use deflate64 or bzip2 so you stand a better chance of opening it.

Excellent work Richard C.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

A suggestion for the Bug Reports part of the document: I think it's semi-standard now for people to post either the NSRT output of their ROM or rominfo.txt so that developers know exactly which ROM you're talking about when you post a bug. Perhaps you should add a paragraph saying to copy+paste the rominfo.txt or NSRT output of the ROM into your bug report?

EDIT: also found a small typo which you may already know about. You see, when you click on the "System Requirements" link, it doesn't jump to that section. The reason is because while the link is

Code: Select all

<a href="readme.htm#requirement">System Requirements</a>
the actual section title is

Code: Select all

<a name="requirements"></a>
I just have to add an s to the link so it's "requirements" instead of "requirement" and the link works fine.

So is this fabled 1.4 version nothing more than what is currently in the CVS? So if you built the CVS source the same day 1.4 is release, you have effectively the same thing? Or does 1.4 have codes that is not present in CVS?

If nobody has any objections, I will replace the "special chip games" section in the man page with a link to Overload's Puzzle Sheet site, and I believe the man page will then be done.

thanks everyone for the replies and feedback!

I recently used w3c's css and xhtml validator on the manual, and after reporting over 600 errors, I decided to make the doc standards compliant. now, only 2 to 3 pages are left with errors, and I should have those fixed by the end of tonight.

Thanks everyone, and have a great Turkey Day!

well, there seems to be a problem.

the manual, although 100% standardized, doesnt display correctly in IE (damn you Microsoft!). I think its just a few CSS issues though, and maybe I can work it out without to much trouble.

Put in a line "Best viewed in a real web browser such as FireFox".

We open source projects have to support each other.
