Cannot load save state

I was playing a game and lost all of my save data...I downloaded a save file from another site and cannot get zsnes to load that save state..I have it in a folder with read/write permission, I have set the paths to the same folder as the zsnes and the save files and rom have the same name...please help!

you need to use the same version of zsnes the save state was created with.

what exact steps are you taking? what error message, if any, are you getting?

When I load the rom, and then load the save state...nothing happens...the game continues to progress as if I am playing it for the first time...and there are no saves in the actual game either....

also, please specify how exactly you're loading the rom (menu? commandline?) and attempting to load the savestate (menu? hotkey?).

Also, check if you load the SRAM with the state or not.

OK so it is noob time...I'm not quite sure what all that meant! If you can give me a simple play by play on what you want me to check..that would be helpful...thanks in advance.

um, can't get much more specific than this. tell me step-by-step EXACTLY what you're doing.

Paths for the game are:

C:\Users\User\Desktop\zelda

saves are set to the same path.

I start zsnes...load the rom (which is in the same directory), go to load state, say yes to load state...and I do not get an error message, as I said the game just continues to load as if I have not loaded a state. State files are in the same directory and have the same name as the rom.
