Controller is recognized BUT

I recently got an Afterglow controller and was able to get it set up in zsnes. All good. But then when I go to play, the "A" and "B" buttons don't respond, even though I set them up in the key setup. ANyone have an idea what's up with that? I'm on Windows 10 if that helps, although I don't think it's really a hardware issue at this point.
