fast forward is with backquote

Post by Norbert »

Hi. Your application and documentation claims that the fast forward key is tilde (~), but I think it is backquote (`).
The (US) QWERTY keyboard layout requires the use of Shift for tilde, namely with Shift+backquote.
I haven't checked the code, but based on ZSNES' behavior, I'm pretty sure the keycode that triggers fast forward is backquote, and Shift is simply a modifier that may or may not be active.
You mention tilde (at least) here:
* On the in-game "speed options" menu pop-up.
* At http://zsnes-docs.sourceforge.net/html/ ... astforward
* At http://zsnes-docs.sourceforge.net/html/ ... s_emulator

But tilde is way more fun and memorable to type and say than that-backwards-apostrophe-thing.

plus, it has been referred to in games and the like as the tilde key dating back to the original Quake.

Assuming that's the key next to the '1', that's not even the tilde key on a UK keyboard.

Instead the tilde is shift+the # key on my end.

Yeah, the key below escape.
ZSNES has long assumed US layout, and this isn't the only place it causes issues.

Where else does it cause issues? Anywhere that might be more damaging? :P

If I recall, the first-run dialog asks you to press Z to continue, and it actually checks for "the leftmost key in the lowest row".

I think it's Z in earlier versions and changed to spacebar in later versions.
And yeah on my keyboard that would mean the \ key lol
