Mode 7 question

Post by user222 »

Does the real SNES support Hi-Res Mode 7, or is it an emulation enhancement?

No, that's a filter AFAIK.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

That depends on what you mean by "hi-res Mode 7". It is possible to enable pseudo-hires (via register $2133, SETINI) on Mode 7, and with EXTBG and some creative palettizing you could even get a halfway decent display out of it. However, the effect enabled by the ZSNES option "Hi-Res Mode 7" (IIUC) is not something available on the real SNES.

Do you know if any games actually tried something like that? I assume not since very few even bothered to use hi-res the normal way let alone out of the ordinary.
