Isn't there supposed to be something better then WMP for videos? I know winamp plays them... upside down.

There is BSplayer and the Core Media Player. Those are the ones I use anyway.

I use Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli not anything made by microsoft) for most things, and VLC (formerly VideoLAN Client) for what MPC won't play.

Some of the SP2 updates make me wish I had XP instead of old Windows 2000. But on the other hand this works and there's no need to pay $150 for an OEM XP Pro license.

I'll probably be upgrading to XP for 64 bit extended systems when that comes out and I have an Athlon64 system.

While I guess it's not incorrect I more often see "braggart"; it also seems nicer to the ear.

What the Fuck?! M$ can know about what you do on WMP? Why.....! I mean, it's bad enough your boss can find out what you do on the puter, but for MicroSHIT to do it, that's going too far.
PS: Would this be a good time to switch to Linux? Or Macintosh?
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Y' know, you don't have to download SP2 if you don't want to.

hmm I got a better idea: I'll keep my firewall enabled, and block all web access that WMP wants to use. How's that? LMAO

If I see you say M$, or 'puter' one more fucking time, I'm deleting every post of yours I come across. It's not witty, or cute, it's retarded and annoying as hell.

And if you're worried about it communicating with MS then just deny all internet access with WMP.

And if you are so worried about it , just use Media Player Classic.
I don't use WMP. I already use Media Player Classic, and an older version of Winamp that hasn't been bastardized by AOL influence.

I was just pointing out why I DON'T use windows media player and why I don't want their stupid updates. On the surface, they did update the player and make it better, but they add all these snooping options and digital rights stuff that I want nothing to do with.

Like I said you can easily deny WMP from access to the internet.

And XP is VERY easy to get , most people I know that are more "savvy" than others just DL it and burn it.

Bit Torrent is a coupon right? *caugh*

*Just note that I never forced you to take that route.
I'll let you learn if you have the "auto updates" on...

Anyway you can use Power DVD for media if you want since it doesnt send back to MS. And it still uses the WMP components.

Have I mentioned Powere DVD with WMP 10 installed runs better?

You can't block WMP from accessing the Internet unless you are either aren't connected or you use an outgoing firewall.

You think you can, but I guarantee that Microsoft has it doing some random queries and transfers which are unavoidable.
Nightcrawler wrote:I don't use WMP.
This is the only assured, 'safe' solution. Don't run the program and it can't do anything concerning you, your data, or the hardware (except the hard disk, where it needlessly occupies space).

Of course, that's assuming Windows Media Player hasn't been given its own service as well. Services are annoying background programs which can be disabled through 'services.msc' (use the run dialog or navigate to the system32 folder).

Think I can?

M$ thought they could stop pirating with XP , and XP pro is the most pirated OS ever.

Stopping WMP from communicating with MS is easy.

No trouble for me. What type of video are you trying to watch?

Not installing SP2 isn't the issue. Did you install most of the updates at Windows Update?
