If I was able to make something like NSRT Frontend (with help of course), you don't think we can add all kinds of features to browsing for ROMs?
and there was much rejoicing...
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

lol pagefault ur blog comments are funny!
IMO GUI toolkits SHOULD actually reconsider some things ;)

BTW: can we get rid of the sucking file dialog? Some kind of tracker applet to serve u just with what ur pleased?!

anyway QT is a nice API for GUI apps, i used to watch a lot this guys blog:

Does this mean that the custom GUI will die in favor of a qt one? Eek!

If there's something I like about Zsnes is it's anachronic, difficult to maintain, internationalization unfriendly and written in obscure x86 asm custom GUI.

I'd love to see an anachronic, much less difficult to maintain, internationalization agnostic and written in plain c custom GUI.

I'd love even more to contribute to it's design and development.

Anyway as long as you keep the old gui around and qt is optional is fine with me.

Anyone designing a new GUI for zsnes might want to watch this video:

http://www.mollyrocket.com/video/imgui.avi

I haven't tried it myself, but IMGUI looks a lot easier than GUI programming using stateful widget toolkits (which I have done lots of, and doing it always sucks).

Generally, the Windows file picker offers the same type of selection if the explorer pane has focus. My question is twofold:
To answer both of you and both questions, it can be done if needed, we can design a custom file dialog which we will probably do eventually but retain what is from the OS at the same time, we can inherit a base class in QT and then change it to our liking, since the file dialog is a class it shouldn't be too hard to do this or create a custom one. At least thats what the documentation leads me to believe. I don't know much about QT at this point, all this was done in a 24 hour period so it will be an uphill battle. And thanks for the encouragement byuu, good luck to you as well in your battles with code.
Will you still try to keep the existing option in the openrom dialog window.
force rom options etc?

Maybe the next Zsnes could have a 10 band equalizer for the audio output, and maybe some better looking screen savers. Like one with a bunch of vector triangles rotating and bouncing around. Also, the ability to change the "State Saved" message font.

Epic bump.

Only 10? Well, I suppose that will (barely) suffice for headphones, at least ...
and maybe some better looking screen savers. Like one with a bunch of vector triangles rotating and bouncing around.
I'm hoping they'll implement projectM, personally.
Also, the ability to change the "State Saved" message font.
That would be nice. Then I could use my Elder Futhark font while playing Ultima: Runes of Virtue.

And plasma effects! And vectorballs! And rotozoomers!

Heck, just add heaps of demoscenish effects and I'm happy ^_^

Sounds cool, but isn't MilkDrop now BSD anyway?

Sure helps if the developer post a bit of news on current status?

And I was hoping to get a Christmas present (I mean a new ZSNES release) this year but sadly that's not the case...

you wouldn't want a half arsed buggy release thrust upon the general newbie would you?

I'm not sure lots of people know this, seeing as there hasn't been a response (yet).

If you really want to know how the devs are doing, you could always go onto IRC and ask. :p

I know, but thanks for reminding me. :)
We (Whats left of my family, since my mother died back in Oct'07) haven't had internet since fall of '06 so it been difficult to get on IRC.
I'll try again when I get a chance.

I'm sure most of the devs live in the USA. If I would to enter IRC, they're probably all sleeping or are simply not there. Are they more active on IRC than on these forums these days?

It was just merely curiosity, so if they're not around I'm sure they have their reasons.
