Won't run on large screen mode

The emulator worked fine until I tried to make the screen big, it just went black and still payed sound, so I closed it off but now it just immediately goes black when I try to run it, then a caption comes up that says DirectDraw error that states 'IDirectDraw 7 SetDisplayMode failed. Make sure your video card supports this mode'
It seems to only run on large screen now, I try to shrink the screen mode by pushing escape but it does nothing. My laptop is only a couple of months old and runs window 8, so I am surprised that it is having this problem. I'm happy to run it on small screen again if it would let me,is there any solutions to this, I prefer not reinstalling it and losing saved games :?

this is late but next time just delete your zsnesw.cfg
