whatever happened to landed ball arrays anyways?

Slots were pretty effective, but with the number of lines they don't look very viable.

gotta be a smarter to attach cpu's to motherboards tho...

I propose we build all mobo components into Lego blocks.

For the record, I have never had a problem with LGA, but I did receive a Socket 754 Athlon64 that had popped out of its container during shipping, bending whole rows of pins. I chose to straighten them with a fake credit card rather than RMA the thing. Worked dutifully for five years, now it's in storage.

arctic fuckshit mx-2 acquired
let's rock

result: failure
shuts down at the very instant the cpu temp goes over 55°
wonder if it's defective from the start...

Yeah, mailed the ASS... (hurr harr hurr)
I just hope the fuckup I made with the cpu (I did misplace it the first time around >_< fucking piece of shit socket rraaaaaaaaaeg ffffffffffff) didn't cause that jazz, else I'm not getting anything but a rather dashing looking expensive paperweight of doom.

Plus, I'm not even sure if it's the PSU (a corsair psu failing right out of the box ? WTF man), the mobo, or the cpu.

But hey, i got 12GB of ram to frolic in for roughly 3 minutes before i hit 55°C.

feels good man

LGA chips are totally unforgiving, and the sockets aren't much better... the first commandment nowadays is "Thou Shalt Not Fuck Up, for Even the Slightest of Moments, or Thy CPU Shall Become a Keychain." it's a painful lesson to learn. :/

anything can fail out of the box, no matter the brand... it's just more rare with better companies. once you've dealt with components in volume it stops being shocking and just becomes the occasional unpleasant surprise.

temps hitting 55 in bios would lead me to think that you the cooler's not installed properly, the compound got messed up or applied improperly, your airflow in the case is absolutely atrocious, or you have a bad chip (in order of likelihood).

I'm kinda used to my last 7 years of >60°C suckamette all-in-one heater solution, mind you.

increasing or decreasing ?

A- cooler's installed (twice) following the notice. improper cooler contact leads to 80+ degrees under 10 seconds (experience speaking here [see also: having fun with your old pentium 2 300]).
B- compound was stock thermal paste first time and arctic cooling mx2 badass thingie second time around, with amount and position following the product guidelines.
C- case was always open. airflow will likely be 'pretty weird', with the main psu and hdd fans sucking the air from the bottom while the mobo fan sucks it out from the top
D- ffffffffffff
E- it's summer, ambient air is 30.

the "shutdown at 55" is so genuinely wtf
maybe the temp sensor on the cpu is fucked and instead of cutting at 80(?) it cuts at 55 ?

the last option is "your hardware doesn't like you and is giving you the finger"

kinda forgot you got a high-end i7 there... temps in the 50+ range aren't that odd, but i still don't like them :D

i've been dealing with low-power stuff too much, recently - anything over 39 and i get angry.

those were in order of decreasing likeliess, though. you can crank that number up to 65 or 70 for one of those chips, though.

Think that's bad. You should see what happened to me today. I had to shut down my computer and look into airflow issues and such.

My comp started bluescreening on me. I figured this was not ordinary since hasn't happened ever before. I installed nvidia tools and took a look. My case temp was way hot. My CPU and GPU were hitting 81c.

I have to pull apart the case now and look at my fans. I have 4 80mm case fans, and another on the iCage for my 3 HD's , and something is not right. This rig actually warms my room. But then again its summer and my room is the hottest in the house at 38c.

You kind of get used to it. I live in the mountains on the continental divide. We get (I shit you not) -40c to 40c throughout the year. Mind you those are the extremes that I have seen over the last couple years.

Apparently it IS the psu. The rest of the stuff with a replaced (and tested) psu is on the way back to me.

kinda weird still... oh well.

Makes you wonder just how much the shit actually costs to manufacture for them to make a living while at the same time replacing the whatever% DOA for free...

they have an interest in actively keeping the number of DOA's down, so that has to be pretty low.

Ha ! blitzkrieg requires no hiberfile to survive.
blitzkrieg lives on the virgin blood abundantly poured on its memory controller hub.
