Netplay over different OSes

Post by Magi »

I recently installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my main PC of which I used to run ZSNES off of I found out that its multiplatform, so I found the 1.42 version for Ubuntu 7.4 and installed it since 1.51 doesn't have netplay. I use Hamachi to bridge the connection. For some reason, we can get into netplay together but once either of us try to open a file, it autocrashes on both ends.

Any suggestions?

Make sure the path+filename of the rom is relatively simple, because ZSNES prior to 1.50 have various evil issues involving that, which is most likely causing said crash.

I moved all the roms over from my NTFS partition to a simple /home/user/SNES folder and ive loaded some and it works fine, just once I try to load it in netplay, it autocrashes zsnes. Is the 1.42n (I just read about it on the forums) needed in Ubuntu? Also would it matter that im running gutsy because i installed 1.42 via synaptics under a feisty repository? I also made sure i had all the dependencies.

I just want to make it work because its fustrating going back and forth between windows and linux.

You need to use the same version of ZSNES on both ends or shit happens.

If the Windows end is using 1.42n, the Linux end needs to use 1.42n.

Found the repository I dled it from: 1.420-2.1ubuntu1. Is that considered 1.42 or 1.42n? Also is the Windows 1.42 dated Jan 5, 2005 in the about tab or is that 1.42n? I got the Windows one I've been playing off of in a simple tutorial post on another forum somewheres so I cant fully trust the version its posted as, just simply 1.42.

It is best if you compile from source if don't trust the repository.. however 1.42 most likely won't compile for Linux.. and you will end up using 1.42n to compile successfully.

http://zsnes.ipherswipsite.com/special/ - you can obtain 1.42n for Windows+source here

Still doesn't work, first off after searching down all the requirements to install the new one, it gave us a incompatiable version error, so he downloaded the win version off that website and now it just wont connect. Any more suggestions?
